saturn woes

Post by saturn3 »

Hi,

I'm new to the boards.
I just recently got a used sega saturn. When I turn the system on all I get is the language screen but I can't select anything, languages or even exit out.
I changed the internal battery with a new one but still no luck.
Can anyone tell me what the problem may be? I'm thinking my controller might be defective as well.

thanks, saturn3

Could either be the controller, a dirty controller port/contacts, or a burnt out controller port.

I cleaned the controller and the ports. They both seem to be in good condition- shiny metal connections.

What usually happens when you load a game in? I have several games I can try to load.
Does the language screen always come up or does a game just automatically load in when you turn the power on the unit and put in a game disc.

well, you have to setup the language the first time the saturn is turned on. I think it could be the controller. Do you know someone else with a Saturn? Maybe you could try their controller on your saturn or your controller on their saturn...

It's most likely a problem with the controller. But don't worry, you can get controllers for like, under 5$.

well, whatever you do, get an official one. 99% they'll work. If not, you could always clean the inside of the controller you have.

Here we go again!!

I am just having no luck at all with these saturn systems. I bought an original sega saturn controller and still no go. My system is still doing the same thing. I turn the power on and the language screen comes up and I can't do anything. I've tried with games in, with games out. Replacing the battery. Hitting the blue button in the back of the unit next to the battery compartment. Trying to reset by holding the right shift button down while powering up the unit. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My next option may be the infamous sledgehammer.

It probably isn't the controller... it's most likely the controller PORT on the saturn side.

Try putting the controller in port 2, the system menu (where it asks for the language and date) should work in either port 1 or 2. If it works then, then player 1 port is fried. If it is fried, well you better hope you have the model 1 because only the early model 1s have seperate daughter boards for the controller ports... if it doesn't have a daughter board it would be cheaper just to buy another saturn.

Nope, I tried both ports . I have 2 controllers-- one super 8-- and one original-- and I have tried both ports and both controllers and switched back and forth between ports and controllers. Still nothing.

Could you tell me what all happens when you first turn on a good working saturn, either with or without a game disk already in the system?
