Final Fantasy IV: The After Years

Post by MrPopo »

So apparently it's just hit Wiiware and so far it's not bad. Basically think of it as an episodic romhack of FF4. Base game is 800 points, another 300 for Rydia's chapter.

From what I've heard, there will be 8 additional chapters. 1-7 will run 300 points while 8 will again be 800. So we are getting a full game for 3700 points.

Has anyone seen reviews? I am real interested in getting the game.

I have the game on my cellphone. It is a really good game, but doesn't really add much more depth to the original FFIV. They are more like addendums.

So I just finished the main download (which ends on a pretty big cliffhanger) and started on Rydia's chapter. I promptly screwed up and saved over the clear data of the main story, and I need to play it again.

So far, it's been pretty good. Some of the areas have slightly unbalanced monster packs (I'm looking at you, Mist Cave), but overall I've enjoyed it. Just remember to save every story to its own save slot, as you can load all that clear data in the last download to finish off the main storyline.

For those of you who aren't hip enough to be "in the know" , the Retronauts blog on 1up has some interesting things to say about the game...

I still downloaded it 'cause I'm a sucker.

I've been following the coverage, and while I agree with many of his points, they don't detract from my enjoyment of the game. I don't have any trouble putting it into the contex of originally being a cell phone game, and the episodic nature has me wondering what's going on behind the scenes. The moon with Golbez is back, there's some crazy chick running around wrecking havok, and <end of main chapter spoilers have been censored>.

I want the full game, not pieces of it.

And I need to finish 2 first.
