Re: Together Retro: Captain Commando
Damn I've been looking Capcom Classics Vol 2 lately. I got the first one a couple weeks ago - it's fantastic.

How soon everyone forgets War of the Gems.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Captain Commando rocks, what other game lets you beat up people in both an aquarium and a space station!?!
None, that's how many.

I've never played War of the Gems. I'm definitely going to have to check it out now that I know it has some space aquarium goodness.

I've been using it so long I didn't even think about it.racketboy wrote:And I finally realized your avatar is from CC as wellRamatut4001 wrote:I love Captain Commando. This a TR I can participate in!
Good stuff, Luke!
Re: Together Retro: Captain Commando
Thanks man. I could have easily written several pages about CC and it's predecessors/counterparts. I left out how the main goons look like the henchmen from ROLLING THUNDER, how CC paved the way for other games like BATMAN RETURNS (SNES), how it showed that arcade ports could still kick serious ass on a console, etc.Ramatut4001 wrote: Good stuff, Luke!
The game is just a great play, as well as easy to review.
And to RB, I'll shrink the images down next time.

Re: Together Retro: Captain Commando
I beat this via PSP's Capcom Collection a while back. Fun game. Nowadays I'm only collecting for Gamecube/Gameboy(s), so I've opted to explore Final Fight One instead.
Re: Together Retro: Captain Commando
Captain Commando is great. I quarter fed through 4/5 of the game yesterday on MAME. I don't think I ever played this game when it came out. I loved the beat-em-ups like Final Fight though.
It will take some serious skill to beat this on one credit. Has anybody here done that?

Re: Together Retro: Captain Commando
Wow I totally missed this month's Together Retro, yet I still played through it! For some reason, on a whim, I fired it up and played through it just the other day. So I guess I was Together Retroing it without realizing it.
I really do enjoy this game. I mean, who doesn't laugh at the thought of a baby driving a mech to destroy villains? It has a ton of humor elements that are not found in many side scrolling beat 'em ups. Does it borrow on a lot of other games? Sure. Does it expand on the genre much? No. But who cares? It's a good game, and it's funny. I still prefer Streets of Rage, but this game makes a solid attempt.

Never played this one, always intrigued of the origins of Captain Commando. Just got a CPS1 emu for the PSP from a friend the other day and had this rom. Tried it on MAME but on the PSP screen it looks better.
