Post by wclem »

Ok guys another question. I am gonna buy a Wii. Which version should I get for softmodding?

Any model can be softmodded. You just need to be careful as the steps can vary depending on your Wii's serial number.

The only thing you have to worry about is the firmware that's on the Wii. You'll have to find a softmodding guide that corresponds to whatever your Wii has on it. Wiibrew, org is a good place to start and get updates.

I've soft-modded several Wiis.

Its really easy. There are several things you can do, but the best thigns are the emulators, and the USB Loader.

What are you talking about? The firmware version makes a difference, but the Wii model number shouldn't make a lick of difference.

Ever heard of Bannerbomb? Its an exploit that works on all firmware versions.

The model number can make a difference, although I wouldn't worry about it much now. There are many workarounds for the later Wii models.

Sorry for any confusion, I haven't been following the Wii homebrew scene for a while.

As long as Bannerbomb works, you can do anything really.

The hardware revision does matter of you're trying to install BootMii to boot2.

I haven't heard of Bannerbomb. Then again, my Wii homebrew is working fine so I haven't had to looking into this lately.

So, apparently the model number still doesn't matter? The only reason it would is if you buy a model that hasn't had the firmware updated. But, as soon as you play a new game... update!
