gba lighting solutions?

Post by Pookie »

Hello everyone,

I just purchased my first Nintendo product, a GBA  Unfortunately, the screen is very dark and I would like to know of any mods that can solve this problem. I searched for the afterburner kit, but I had no luck finding it. I purchased the earlier version because I find it comfortable to hold compared to the GBA SP.

Thanks, and any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't know how to mod one, but I've always wanted to stick a GBA SP+ (The brighter version 2 GBA SP) screen into an original GBA case as I too find it more comfortable.

Yeah, without purchasing a light for it your options are slim to none.

True, but it is the best option other than afterburner.

Yeah, GB Micro is the way to go. GBA SP is a lot better than the original GBA, but the light is kinda...weird? Try GB Micro, it is really worth the price it's a great system..or buy a DS or DS Lite :) You will not regret it.
I've got no signature.

I've heard good and bad things about Afterburner, but mostly everybody who got it did enjoy it. Apparently if you get a good aftermarket battery add-on you can get a good amount of battery life out of the classic model even with the afterburner installed and running constantly.
I thought I remembered something about a limited release GBA classic backlit model, but I must have just be thinking about the SP re-release...
While trying to find said nonexistent model I found this:
http://www.gamecritics.com/feature/repo ... page01.php

I can add to that review list by telling everyone that the Sharklight(tm) is the second worst gaming accessory ever (next to that friggin cobra piece of crap I've never seen before).
The original SP model with the cold-cathode frontlit screen has a noticeable cyan/sky blue tint to it. I thought it just made it more high-tech looking, and for a long time it didn't bother me one bit. Eventually I tried to hack PocketNES and my favorite games' palettes to compensate by palette hacking a gamma corrected tan tint into the games with limited results. Not really worth the effort, but my fixed Pocketnes palette is still available.

As far as getting a portable, correctly colored, easily-viewable, sufficiently bright screen, I'd have to say that the PSP does the best with the GBA emulator GPSP, next is the Nintendo DS screen(s), after that the 2005 backlit model of the GBA SP, then the GB Micro (tho it's the smallest of the bunch it does look awesome).

I think I am just going to buy a micro, Gamestop has it for $29.99 at the moment. It's been cloudy here in Southern California, so it's been difficult playing with it
