Xbox 360 hard drive transfer?

Post by kunoh »

My Xbox 360 died once already, and now it's out of warranty and the optical drive is making weird sounds. So basically I want to take the hard drive out of my existing 360 and put it into a brand new Core system that I would buy from Amazon or something. Is this possible? And will the downloaded games I bought on Xbox Live work?

I'm sorry if this was posted already, i tried searching the forums but I didn't find anything regarding this. I also tried google, but I got too many hits regarding hard drive upgrading which is not what I want.

-thanks!

The hard drive and everything stored on it will work on any console.

The only time you would need a transfer cable is if you are going from an old hard drive and trying to transfer all the information to a larger drive. For example, going from a core system 20gb to an elite system 120gb. You cannot transfer a larger drive onto a smaller drive.

It sounds like you just need to take it out of the old system and put it into the new system.

- Yes, that is exactly what I wanted to do. Although now that you've mentioned it, upgrading to a larger hard drive might be a better idea.. A Core system runs about $200 i think.. and if i upgrade to the Pro - thats $100 more. It's still a large amount of cash, but I think that might be a better idea :) in the long run.
