RROD - It's like Christmas anytime of the year
Re: RROD - It's like Christmas anytime of the year
First 360 died within a week of a HDD failure.
Second 360 died in 2 years due to RRoD
Current 360 only reads media 1/2 the time, getting close to replacement as it worsens

At least the PS2 didn't burn your house down when the plug in back shorted out.miked wrote:The oXbox had some issues, but the PS2 by far wins the award for shittiest hardware of the last generation. The 360 is one ugly situation, but at least Microsoft can admit that there really is a problem......

That wasn't the plug's fault it was the people who leave cords strewn all over their room's fault.corn619 wrote:At least the PS2 didn't burn your house down when the plug in back shorted out.miked wrote:The oXbox had some issues, but the PS2 by far wins the award for shittiest hardware of the last generation. The original Xbox was a tank except for one or two drive issues that were quickly fixed by Mcrosoft and never seen again. The 360's hardware however is shit thanks to all the cut corners and mismanagement during it's development.

Re: RROD - It's like Christmas anytime of the year
You know, to be honest, I haven't heard of nearly as many PS2s dying as I do 360s, especially two and a half years after its release. The only PS2, out of all of my friends, that I've heard of dying was my own after modding it. The DVD drive went. Of course I read all about the problems on the internet.ryanstein wrote:At this point, though, as I tell everyone, I have seen many, many more PS2s back in the day that have broken than the Xboxes. Yet, somehow, people excuse Sony when they don't excuse Microsoft. Even though Microsoft extended warranties, and Sony still refuses to acknowledge some problems. Explain that one to me.
So, do you actually have sources to back up your claim of the PS2 failure rate being as extreme as the 360?

Here's the problem though, 360 hardware probably won't ever reach the $50 mark, why? Well the basic rules of supply and demand show that when you constantly have less and less of something (In this case working 360 hardware) the price will go up. I won't be surprised if 10 years from now we'll have to drop somewhere in ththe neighborhood of $200 for a working unit because of all the longterm issues.ryanstein wrote:Which is a very good thing to lose sleep over, in my opinion. The way I solve it is: I don't download games. The only way I play games is if I can get a copy of it in hard media, or DRM allows me to make a backup copy (like Steam). XBLA does not allow me to do it, ergo I don't buy from XBLA. I rather play games on the original hardware, anyway, not emulated as on the Xbox.HellHammer wrote:How will you play your games? Even if the next Xbox system is backwards compatible with the 360's games, how will you play the titles you've downloaded?
These are the things I lose sleep over.
As for my Xbox RRODing in the future, as you said, it'll be discontinued. So I'll just buy another. By that point, it'll only be $50 at Gamestop for another, and I won't blink an eye. And since I don't have downloaded games, I can play my games on whatever Xbox I wish. Also, I prefer having two of every console to begin with, so I'll be purchasing another Xbox once they go down in price. No matter the circumstances, if it's a retro system, I always have at least two, sometimes three of the hardware (in several versions) just in case it breaks. This Xbox will not be an exception, and will probably have even more just because of the potentially unreliable hardware. (I say potentially because my hardware hasn't shown any problems.)

Re: RROD - It's like Christmas anytime of the year
Man is it getting hot in here.
I just recieved the system was hoping for a new one, o'well. I came across a brand new Halo edition 360 and will be picking that up soon anyways.
I do see a lot a valid points about MS but the benifits of gaming out way any minor inconvience RRoD might bring. And I never had any problems with my oXbox. And like someone mentioned in an earlier posting when the oXbox drop price around $30, for me, I will be picking up one extra one above my original and my Halo Edition system too.
And for those short sided PS fans please do some research about the original release PSOnes, PS2's, and even PSP's. Everyone drops the ball at launch, it's a tradition in the industry now.

Re: RROD - It's like Christmas anytime of the year
Actually Mod Man the problem was located where you plugged the Xbox in. The solder on the posts of the 110 input on the back of the Xbox were cheap and could break easily. This would short the unit out with constant plugging and unplugging in the back of the Xbox and possibly catch fire. So Microsoft put a fuse on the plug so it wouldn't catch on fire, but it would still burnout your Xbox.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:That wasn't the plug's fault it was the people who leave cords strewn all over their room's fault.

Still I've never seen any problems with original Xboxes made after '02 when they revised the board, and fixed those minor issues.

Re: RROD - It's like Christmas anytime of the year
You'd have to be a dumb asshole to keep re-buying the same console that you know is just going to die on you in some way. I mean I can understand buying a second in hope that new hardware would have fixed something but to be on your 3rd or 4th after that is just stupid. It's not like the Xbox has that great of exclusive games that you cant find anywhere else.
Pretty fed up with mine and I know that I wont be paying Microsoft another 300 because the fans are loud as fuck yet can't properly cool it down and stop it from shutting off. Past my warranty I'm pretty sure and have already sent it in before. Not going to bother replacing when it dies.
On a more positive note, I'm looking forward to the FEAR 2 dlc...
