No way! Maridia rules. Super Metroid is probably my fave game of all time, so I'll definitely say that it's the best Metroid. Fusion didn't really feel like a Metroid game, and that whole X thing was a big naff. Zero Mission was a nice relick.metaleggman wrote:I honestly like the original the least, lol. Fusion and 2 are proabably my favorites. Super Metroid was fun until you got to the water area. Then again, that was on an emulator quite a while ago, so I may like it more if I played the real thing. Still, I have never been able to really play through Metroid very far. I dono why. It just seems boring. Plus the 30 life thing makes life hard for us perfectionists.extrarice wrote:My favorite is Super Metroid, though I think the original Metroid is a better game. Fusion had too much hand-holding for my liking.Reminds me of how I'm playing unreal perfectly to keep the 3D effect the sheild belt gives you.

I like Metroid 2 a lil' bit better than fusion, simply because there is less hand holding and it seems like a refined version of the original Metroid. Metroid Fusion had superb boss fights though. The last boss fight was so freakin' sweet.racketboy wrote:You liked Metroid 2 (the Gameboy one) as much as Fusion?

Metroid Fusion was actually my first Metroid experience, so I guess i didn't mind the hand-holding
I STILL haven't finished it, so I guess I have yet to meet up with that boss

lol yeah it does. I never made that correlation before, but yeah. The sprite animation details in Fusion are really good.metaleggman wrote:The last boss fight was so freakin' sweet.Reminds me of a Metal Slug boss.
Fusion was the first Metroid that behaved like that. I loved the feeling of exploration the first three games had, the "Ok, I now have this item, what can I do with it...where can I go that I couldn't before...". You really got the feeling of being on an alien world with nothing but your wits (and a powerful suit) to keep you alive.racketboy wrote:Metroid Fusion was actually my first Metroid experience, so I guess i didn't mind the hand-holding
Bah, all you youngins today, missing out on the great games of yesterday that form the foundation of the games you play today. Back in my day, we made our OWN strategy guides and maps, on graph paper! And there was no Internet, no GameFAQs to help us out when we got stuck. Auto-map? Saves? Bah! *shakes walking stick angrily*
Seriously now, link up Fusion and Prime (or finish Zero Mission) to unlock NES Metroid. Play through that to understand the essence of Metroid (though the pixel bluring is a bummer).
