That's funny, I was thinking of asking Moz how to change tracks in Dreamcast games so I can create SFIII Take You For A Ride version.
Racket tried asking me and I wouldn't answer then. Why would I answer now? Guides exist all over the internet. You don't need my help.

I'm playing, but only non-ranked matches.

I played a few ranked ones and had some good even rounds but it wasn't as fun as the non-ranked. Everyone picks their super serious characters and is always the same team over and over. Too much bullshit where the opponent doesn't fight you and lets the clock run out of time in my experience. I get the mentality behind it, better to block and win then risk getting caught in a combo and losing.

I like a fun game with different fun teams. Win or lose. Not block city. Shit is just too serious. It is a fucking video game people. Have some fun with it.

I haven't picked this up yet, but I was wondering if they do the non-ranked matches in the format of "Join a room, then play until somebody quits" or if they do it as single match like how ranked goes.

I would probably play more non-ranked matches in SF4 or BB if they would just do single matches and then back to find a match screen. I personally don't want to play the same person multiple times when they're faceless, as I generally find a single character to play with; fighting the same guy with the same character doesn't appeal to me.

thats the other thing- from the limited ranked matches i've played, it is just 2 people playing 1 round and that is it. I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure it is just 1 on 1 for 1 round only. Trying to find a game takes just as long as playing a game in my experience.

The player matches has a room of people up to 6. Winner of the match takes on the next person. Loser and others spectate. I like this. You see how stronger players are winning and if everyone has voice chat you can talk about the match or shoot the shit when you arn't playing. Some people might not be so into that. I assume if you get a couple annoying miced players it could be obnoxious, but for the most part not a lot of people are miced anyway.

I ordered the madcatz fightpad today for MVC2. Maybe it is because I played it on the dreamcast in highschool with it's hand crippling controller, but it just makes sense to play it with a gamepad rather than a stick. The stick just seems like a serious piece of a equipment for a game that is totally silly.

Im having no luck with beating a game with "theme" charactors:

1) Beating the game with Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk does not give you the Avengers Achivement.
2) Using Cyclops, Gambit and Storm doesnt get you the Xmen Achivement.
3) Using Ken, Ryu and Chun Li doesnt give you the Street Fighter Achivement.

You would figure with CA, Iron Man and Hulk, you could get the avenger achive, but no. Someone will figure it out... eventually...

i read in a few places that if you want the achievement and do it on easy you can't continue.

also
I got the Avengers Assemble achievement with Captain America, Hulk, & Iron Man. Just wait, the achievement doesn't show up right away. Also make sure you go from start to finish with them.
and although it doesn't make for good gameplay- if you arn't sure about a character's team affliation, you could always do something like an all Ryu team for the street fighter achievement.

That actually doesn't sound too bad for a players match. Your opponent keeps changing, which is nice. But what you described for ranked matches is how SF4, BB, and SSF2THDR do their ranked system, so I'm not shocked they do it the same way with MvC2.

Yeah- i'm just not a fan for the most part. I'm realizing that for the most part I'm not as competitive as other fighting game fans. I just wish there was a ranking system for more casual players.

I'm interested in getting ranked. I'm more interested in having a fun game with a rotation of players, all of which are chatting and having a good time win or lose. I'd rather play a game where no one is pissed or crouching over corpses. Something about fighters just brings the asshole out in people.

Does the new KOF game have a similar ranking system?

*edit* I'm starting to realize that fighters in general might be over my head. That most fighting game franchises are catering to a fanbase that has been ruthlessly playing fighting games for 20 years. I played mvc2 with friends on dreamcast for a year or two. That is as serious as I ever got. Before that it was a little street fighter II turbo on genesis, but nothing competitive or cutthroat. To try to break into that 20 year skill level or participate in that world is daunting. However, i can't believe that capcom wouldn't try to build a game for both the new fight fan and the old. It seems they've built a system where they don't give me access to all the features i want because i haven't been a fight fan all my life. Furthermore, they've made fighting the computer a difficult to impossible endeavor for the casual player (at least on the HD remix. Haven't played much of MVC2, and i have SFIV in the mail to my house currently).

Maybe I'm over thinking this, but does the MVC/HDremix/SFIV system pair you with people in your skill level? Does it track that somehow? It seems that would be the way to go. If i knew the more i fought the more even the matches would be, i would probably play ranked more often.

Seth in SFIV falls victim to SNK Boss Syndrome. I played through all characters on the easiest setting to just unlock everything and Seth would completely destroy me with some characters that I had gone undefeated with in previous matches.
