What system next?

Post by dlmvii »

I basically have every game I want for the Ps1, PS2, and Sega Saturn (a few notable exceptions here, the biggest being Guardian Heroes :( )
Besides these I own a Genesis and SNES, neither of which I have more than I handful of games for. My question is, which of these systems do you think is the easiest (and cheapest) to build a library for? I enjoy enough of the library on both so I think I would like enough games for either. I don't think I'm going to try to get boxes and inserts though, as these seem to almost double the price for cart games. Or, I could pick up something else altogether - a TurboDuo is what I've been eyeing the most, but they are awfully expensive...anyone have any insight into this system as well?
(I suppose I have the gamecube too, but nothing outside of the 10 or so titles I own interests me much)

Neo geo . I would say that a genesis collection will be much easier to obtain, and all the games are pretty cheap. You need to get the Sega CD for it's RPG's though.

I think Genesis would be cheaper to get the games for. You should try to see if you get the boxes and and instructions for the games if it's not too taxing because they usually have some really funny or corny text somewhere and they look a lot better when you put them up on a shelf. I remember Contra: Hard Corps having an especially funny box saying essentially "Think you're tough enough to beat this game? Well, you aren't!"

Genesis games are usually cheaper as they're more plentiful due to Sega's dominance during the key years if the 16-Bit era ('91-94'), but it can vary as well. Where I used to live in Jersey Sega stuff was everywhere, now where I live here in NC it's a good day if I ever see any Sega stuff as the area is mostly filled with Nintendo stuff.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

Get a Turboduo. Then get a Neo Geo (CD model if you're on a budget).

Build up your Genesis collection.. Most games are pretty cheap and easy to find complete. Seems like you are into the PS1/Saturn generation, maybe you should grab an N64. System and games are cheap there too, plus there isnt as much to collect so you can finish that collection and move on to something else quickly

If you want a fun system for which it's really cheap and easy to build a great library, then look no further than the N64. It's definitely one of my favorite systems, especially for some of the killer games that Rare was pumping out back then, like Banjo Kazooie (and Tooie), Conker, Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark. And of course you have Mario, Zelda, Starfox, etc. There were so many absolute classics on that system. There's always the good old Dreamcast. In my humble opinion, these are two of the best systems ever for just plain fun games.
Systems: Atari 7800, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Game Boy Pocket (2), Game Boy Color, GBA SP (2), DS

Genesis is a lot easier to collect than snes. For one people tended to keep the boxes since they're not crappy cardboard. Also, the most popular games are a lot cheaper than the most popular ones for snes. The sonic games all go for under $10 with a box and manual. Donkey Kong country games go for $10-$15 for just the cart. Kirby games go for a lot, mario kart is usually at least $15 or more everywhere I see it.

Why don't you just look for games for both? That way if you see a good deal on a snes game you're looking for you can just get it instead of just paying attention to genesis games.

Yeah, I totally agree.. If you find cheap SNES games while building up your Genesis collection I would also go for them as well.. 8)
