Finally got my HORI Real Arcade Pro Stick :)

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Finally got my HORI Real Arcade Pro Stick :)

Post by baphomet_irl »

The behemoth finally arrived in the post today - a gift from my lovely wife. As I was unable to find a DC to PS2 joypad converter (but bizarrely the other way around was available :s ) - I had to get myself a nice stick for my PS2 - I should be able to get a converter so I can use it on my GC (and therefore play the best Soul Calibur II).

I'm very pleased with it so far - at first I thought it didn't feel as 'real' as the DC stick (although Im not sure if mine is exactly same as vanilla ASCII stick as the seller on eBay said it was custom Sanwa parts (the buttons and stick are different colours)), and to be honest I still dont think it feels as 'real', but I think I'm actually able to play better with it than the DC stick for some reason. Its slightly softer, and dragonpunches seem to be a lot easier so far.

I fired up Tekken 5, and played the Tekken 3 Arcade that comes with it, and I was properly in nostalgia heaven, except my screen was bigger, and my speakers were better :).

Playing SF Alpha Anthology was great too, although Im still actually best at playing SF with a Saturn pad, but I got a particularly bad case of
'Street Fighter Thumb' over the weekend, so Im sticking to using a stick for the moment :)

Looking forward to finally actually playing KOF 2002, Neowave and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum :D

I know this was a pretty pointless post, but Im just very happy that I can play a lot more PS2 games the way I would like to play them now, and also maybe some people who were wondering what the HORI sticks are like relative to DC sticks might find this post helpful.

Congrats!!

And from the wife too; aren't they great.
I could never use the arcade sticks very well; I guess all the years of playing fighting games at home with a D-pad rather than in arcades.

They are indeed :)

Yeh I have tbh, atm I'm still definitely better at playing most fighting games with a good pad, but I prefer the feeling of playing with a stick (much like Im better at GT and Colin McRae with a pad, but prefer using a wheel). The only thing where Im noticeably better with a stick atm is 2d shooters, they are FAR harder with a pad IMO
