My favorite is Super Metroid, though I think the original Metroid is a better game. Fusion had too much hand-holding for my liking.

I honestly like the original the least, lol. Fusion and 2 are proabably my favorites. Super Metroid was fun until you got to the water area. Then again, that was on an emulator quite a while ago, so I may like it more if I played the real thing. Still, I have never been able to really play through Metroid very far. I dono why. It just seems boring. Plus the 30 life thing makes life hard for us perfectionists. Reminds me of how I'm playing unreal perfectly to keep the 3D effect the sheild belt gives you.
