Xbox 360 question

Ok...i have had this 360 since release day and it has been played 1000's of hours. Ok rewind to release date. I get my 360 home with a game and put in the disk. I am shocked and freaked out when my 360 powers on and it reads the disk,but the screen wont show up but i can hear the sound effects of the game. I pressed all the buttons,and as soon as i pressed the home button the screen lit up and the home button menu came up. I pressed it again and started playing through the game normally. This has continued with every game i have played over the last 4 years. No game will show anything on my screen until i press the home button first,yet the sound effects will be present. I have tried it on multiple TV's and gotten a new power supply and AV cords to no avail. Any ideas?

What you're describing sounds like what happens when you have the wrong video output setting for your particular TV. Make sure you have the correct setting selected in the console options.

Not sure why it would go back and forth like that for several years, though....

I have several times. Once i press the home button the screen pops up and stays up even after i bring the home menu down...
