Official Nintendo Magazine to Announce New NiGHTS Game?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Official Nintendo Magazine to Announce New NiGHTS Game?

Post by racketboy »

Some people think so....

Or will it just be an elaborate April Fools joke?

Sega is in no position right now to have a sense of humor. If this is a joke it might just unleash the zombie gamer hordes to set fire to Sega headquarters.

NiGHTS sequel rumors are popping up every 3 months now. This is just stupid. How many years of this disappointment do we need to continually be subjected to until we just face facts? There is not going to be a sequel.

Though just for kicks, I must ask: Do you guys even WANT a sequel? Knowing Sega's current skill-set, the game would be a stinker anyway, and probably do irreversible damage to many a fanboy's psyche.

Well, after I posted this, I was reminded of a story I posted last year about Sega having other developers work on some of their older IP/franchises.

And teamed with the fact that this rumor supposedly involves a Nintendo magazine, I thought it would be cool if Sega just handed over the task to Nintendo's developer as a joint project like F-Zero GX. That would keep Sega from screwing it up too much and lend Nintendo's expertise to the imaginative platformer genre they handle so well.

If this is an April Fool's joke, the people at Nintendo Power should all be shot (don't you have a April Fool's posting about Sonic Xtreme Racketboy?). If Sega were to come out with a Nights sequel though, why would they limit themselves to only a Wii release? Do you think that Sega would hand over the reigns of what would be their most anticipated game in ages to Nintendo? If the game turned out to be a success Nintendo would probably get all the credit, and Sega right now is desperate for a quality game.

IIRC, it's not Nintendo Power, it's "Official Nintendo Magazine" which is the UK equivalent

As for the Sonic Xtreme thing, I was just reporting on the elaborate prank (I fell for it) -- I wasn't the one who made it up.

I say who cares. If its not made by AM2 or another one of Sega of Japan's arcade designers (Sega Rosso, etc), it's going to suck. It seems lately, Sega isn't getting any of my console money. Rather, I spend even more at the arcade every week playing After Burner Climax with the motion seat, and Initial D v3, F355 Challenge, Virtua Tennis 3 on some giant Toshiba plasma screen, and some new game called Let's Go Safari (or something like that).

I don't want a sequel, but I really believe one is coming out. And why? Because NiGHTS is going to be a huge moneymaker for Sega. You could've said the old Sega wasn't into the bottom line (what with the huge risks bringing over games like Samba De Amigo with the $80 Maracas), but the new Sega makes a never-ending supply of horrible Sonic games. So I can only assume they're in it for the money.

Sorry, that was poorly worded. I know you weren't the one who wrote that. What I was attempting to point out was that it always seems like things that are too good to be true are too good to be true.

If SEGA joins Nintendo for this game, it could be great. Amusement Vision's games have been great (F-Zero GX/AX, Super monkey ball one, two, and the DS one me thinks) and SEGAs other games haven't really been stinkers. Honestly, the 3D Sonic games have really been the only stinkers. Pretty much everything else SEGA has pumped out has been better than most 3rd party crap or it was genuine gold. People seem to focus simply on the Sonic games though.

No, not all the Sega stuff has been bad. But it isn't the innovative stuff we saw when they were in the hardware business. They basically just re-hash the old stuff.
