Who else uses Pandora?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Who else uses Pandora?

Post by Mozgus »

Again, I could have swore we had a thread about Pandora, but since the search says no, I must make one.

Anyway, I've used it off and on over the years, but recently decided to invest some real time into expanding my non-game, non-soundtrack music collection. Pandora is a great way to do this. I then googled up an awesome little tool that lets me save the streams as 64kbps m4a songs, so I can keep them. Legal or not, I don't care.

I enjoyed doing this so much that I decided to pay them the $36 annual fee to have 192kbps mp3 access, no audio ads, no other ads, and no streaming monthly limit of 40 hours, and no daily skip limit. It's pretty nice. I think it's a good compromise between being a total pirate, and being raped by the outrageous prices for digital music, while at the same time it's sampling me to tons of new bands I've never heard of, and with a couple clicks, I have saved the song, if I like it. The security and comfort of knowing that all the songs I dl will be perfect rips and a high bitrate are worth it. Torrents and the like remain unreliable in this regard.

I wont link to the program I'm using to save the streams but if you google you will find one that works I'm sure. This one also happens to work with other audio streaming sites like Last.FM. Pandora happens to download the song within the first 10 seconds of playing it, so when you tell it to save, its basically just copying from your cache.

Funny you should mention Pandora.
Not only am I using it right now, but I was recently thinking about subscribing

I use the Adobe Air client right now and lately when I pause, skip tracks or anything, it opens a new Pandora browser window and starts playing another session (quite annoying)
I'm hoping the new Pandora One app fixes this.

I was going to install it until it said it was going to also install Air, so I said fuck it. Firefox works just fine.

Whats your email for it? Maybe we can try sharing lists.

My friend actually uses Pandora and has been telling me some good things about it. From what I'm reading it sounds good, so I'll check it out.

Using it now for the first time. Its ok. Yahoo radio is very similar to this. So far the song selection has too many hits not enough obscure-ish songs from artists.

Well the trick is unfortunately to find just one obscure artist yourself, and then enter it, and it tends to find many more of them for you. If you enter a mainstream, you tend to just get more mainstream.

yeah pandora is sweet.... i have it on my phone too so i can just plug it into my car or someone else's car and it works pretty much like an ipod... you can't find everything from an artist but it is definitely a good way to broaden your music selection

Been using it for years as writing/studying companion as I made some cool no-vocals stations. I've bought several CDs that I was turned on to by the prog.

Oh, and if you aren't using it - Open Pandora is the way to go: http://getopenpandora.appspot.com/

I love pandora.
It has replaced iTunes and my re-ripping every cd I own into mp3s whenever I reformat my harddrive.
