I thought the PSP was pretty easily capable of running PS2 games - would it just be a matter of changing the output res (if they could get the actual ISO reading etc. working) ?
Impossible, since you have to usually have at least twice the emulated system's power on your system emulating the emulated system to emulate the system to be emulated just somewhat. A bit wordy...
I would've been slightly possible IF the PSP had the PS2's almost exact same architecture, there would just be drops in framerate and maybe a bit of sound stuttering considering things would still have to be emulated. Since it is probably the inevitable, it could happen on the PSP2.

Depends how how powerful the PSP2 will be. I'd be very impressed if they were able to follow the same path of the PS2/PSP and make the PSP2 a handheld equivalent to the PS3. I wouldn't expect it for another 2-3 years though.

Will never happen. While the PS2 and PSP practically have the specifications they are totally different systems. The PSP simply has no where near the horsepower to emulate the PS2. PS1 emulation already exists on the PSP though.
Ok i didnt realise there was that much of a difference - cos tbh Dark Resurrection looks as good as Tekken 5 to my eyes
yeh I knew they were different, but I was just being stupid - my (totally made up in my own head) theory was this:
the PSP was basically a v small PS2, and that the only major differences were probably some sort of on purpose 'handicap' SONY threw in to stop people running PS2 ISO's on them (althou obviously they would have to have a big mem stick)
I don't see enough sellable games on the Saturn to make writing an emulator worthwhile. And many of them would be prohibitively large. And does the classic controller even have enough buttons?

It does have enough, but I think you would have to use the extra trigger buttons instead of two of the face buttons.
Or it's a possiblity to have SEGA release another controller so you can play the games the proper way. Just you wouldn't need to buy it. It would simply be an option for us saturn nuts. Plus, like I said, the games wouldn't be huge. The sound data could be compressed using a lossless high compression format. That basically means the size of the data layer + like 10mb at most per song.
Like I said earlier, the games wouldn't be huge. The sound data could be compressed using a lossless high compression format. That basically means the size of the data layer + like 10mb at most per music track. Plus, it's a possibility to add support for SDHC as SDHC simply uses a different memory addressing method (sector addressing vs byte addressing. That, and there is a bit of compatability problems for SDHC cards and devices which are even SDHC compatable. I understand why Nintendo wouldn't want to take the risk.
