My Japanese console collection (so far)

Post by Breetai »

I thought I'd join the club and post my current set-up. Unfortunately, I don't have a dedicated game room. My only systems constantly hooked-up are my PS3 and Wii. For the others, I've got to hook them up each time I want to use them. Hopefully I'll get a dedicated space for them all sometime.

The PS3 (60GB, upgraded to 320GB) and Wii are under the TV. The rest are in plain site. ;)

Not pictured are all of my NTSC-US systems, since, well, they are back home and I'm in Japan. Those would be a TI99/4a, NES, Super NES, Genesis (model 1), Sega CD (model 2), two Playstations (one modded, one not), two more PS2s (one modded, one not; both are fat models), a Halo Edition X-Box from Korea (modded), a GBA and another DS lite (pink).

I'd post my games, but they're spread between two countries right now.

Thanks!

It's a Sony Trinitron. 20,000yen, or about $200 used. A good deal I think! It gets up to 1080i, so those 720p PS3 games are no problem. I love the quality it puts out on everything from the Famicom to the PS3. It has D-link, which I think is the Japanese equivalent of component.

Cool.

What I love about those Trinitron sets is that they use a steel Apeture Grille insteadof the usual Shadow Mask to form the pixels on screen. This eliminates all of the color banding and geometry issues usually prevalent with other Shadow Mask based CRT HDTV's making Trinitron sets extremely durable and high quality compared to any other CRT set.

I really didn't know that. I had a Trinitron set before I moved to Japan and was really happy with it, so I was more than happy to get another.

Yeah, they're fantastic sets with extremely nice picture tubes and contrast levels.

What's that white Sega thang? Is that a Japanese master system?

Man, good on you for committing to a collection here. Every time I buy something it just adds to the dread of one day either getting rid of it or shipping it so I can move back home.

Thanks. I was lucky. It was $5 is a junk bin. Nothing is wrong with it, other than it is scratched up quite a bit (doesn't really show in the photo). It took me quite a while to find an RF switch that would work, though.

The white Sega thing on the left side is an SG-1000. It came before the Master System and is comparable to the Atari 5200 in graphics.

The white Sega thing next to the Mega Drive is a Mark III. That IS a Master System in everything but name. The black Master System that you're familiar with is actually the model 2.

The other white Sega things are a Saturn and a Dreamcast, but you already know that. ;)

You're right about the dread of shipping things back home. The reason I took this picture is because I spent most of the day (sadly) packing this stuff away. The PCE Duo, every Neo Geo system and the grey Saturn are coming home with me in my luggage on my trip this summer, and the rest will have to be shipped on the slow boat along with a few hundred games.
