Re: eBay Strategies
ebay isn't your friend in most cases, but can be very useful in selling things that don't get eaten up by racketboy members

eBay has a postage calculator that works pretty well. You can calculate costs before listing, however I would suggest Craigslists too. When dealing with bigger items on eBay it becomes quite cumbersome finding shipping supplies and going to the post office and all that business. With Craigslist you have the option of the person coming to you.
Right now on eBay you can list buy it now stuff for 0.05 (10 days) which is pretty cheap if you ask me. If you were to sell your Nintendo 64 for 29.95 + shipping you could walk with about $25. Lastly, the exposure that eBay gives you is unparalleled to anything else on the internet.

Re: eBay Strategies
I think Ebay is great for both the buyer and seller. As a buyer, I really like the convenience of buying the thing I want and potentially saving some money. As a seller, I like being able to get top dollar for it versus Craigslist.
Before listing an item, I suggest looking at the completed auctions for your item so you have an idea of how much it will sell for. If it's under $10, I wouldn't bother trying to sell it on Ebay.
I listed all of my items for $.99 with a 7-day auction. None of the items went for $.99. They all got bidded up to their target range. In a number of cases, the items were at the top end of the range. The items I sold recently were 10 different Thomas the Tank Engine trains that my daughters haven't played with in a while. The rest I'll sell on Craigslist as a lot because they're not worth much individually.
I have some Pokemon GBC games that are on Ebay right now (seller id: gtmtnbiker67) that will close Sunday night. I'll comment on how those sold compared to the competition.
For lightweight stuff, I ship first class mail. If an item sold for more than $25, I'll pay for tracking number ($.75) and if it even more ($35+), I'll go for insurance.
If you're doing a lot of selling, it would be worth picking up shipping labels at Staples so you can print them out.
