Everyone know money is more important than lives. Pfft.
Re: Problem with capitalism ?
Im sure you right wingers actually think of it that way. If the republicans had their way we be making sweat shop wages here in the US so they wouldnt have to bother taking their factories over seas. Ofcourse alot of people here pretty much do make sweat shop wages.Hatta wrote:Sweat shops provide jobs.
Re: Problem with capitalism ?
In fact, it's the very fact that factories from the US go overseas that raises wages in other parts of the world (and also raises the standard of living of Americans in the long run; win-win game).Octopod wrote:Im sure you right wingers actually think of it that way. If a country has an "excess" of labor in relation to factors of production (capital), its wages will be low. If the opposite occurs, wages will be high. In a free market (which the present system is certainly not), labor will tend to go from places with high capital productivity to places with high labor productivity, and capital will tend to go in the opposite direction. To sum up, if unrestricted, rich countries will invest capital in poor countries (thus raising their wages), and workers will immigrate from poor to rich countries (thus lowering their wages).
Is that a good deal for rich countries? Yes, sure. Free immigration would also tend to allocate workers in their most efficient positions, and so in the long run the economy will be more productive, and wages all around will tend to be higher.
The problem is: there are presently a number of limitations preventing the movement of capital from rich to poor countries, at both sides of the exchange. Many people lobby against "outsourcing" in richer countries, while the poorer countries' governments put severe limitations on foreign investiment.
If you ask me, those limitations are what keep poor countries' wages from rising.
And your refraining from buying foreign products is certainly not helping foreigners either.

I am not sure why a lot of you are so upset
It was just a discussion if you think pure capitalism is the perfect system, because America believes in it so much, now they are in so much trouble and jobs are being outsourced and Americans are Jobless.
Now the government decides to buy buy the big companies with people's tax(capitalism or communism?). If you do not think Capitalism has a problem you must be mentally sick. Of course I was not trying to state that capitalism should be converted to communism(or anything else) I was just trying to say that pure Capitalism probably won't work and it failed many times. The US is reaching for "communist/socialist" solution to solve "capitalist" created problems.
I am just saying that maybe capitalism should have some restrictions.

I am all for rewarding those who work, and those who do not work should not be rewarded . I am not saying you father and your friend should get equal pay. I am saying that there is a bare minimum that every one holds a right to like education, home, and healthcare. You might not think you should pay for others, but in a situation where some people have golden toilets and others are homeless, I am pretty sure the homeless will start killing and stealing the rich because it is so much unfair. If you give bare minimum, then they realize they are in this situation because of themselves. If they work on it they can get something better, every necessity is given to them now its their turn to flourish in the community.
if your friend steals then his place is jail not community.
I also hate the mentality of "I worked for it, it is mine" . I think the rich should help and share the profits with the poor. It builds a friendly society which helps reduce crime level. Plus it doesn't hurt the rich to share. $10 might be nothing for a lot of the people but it can be lunch and dinner for a homeless guy , that if he had not received, he might as well kill some one else for it. Lets face it, he is hungry and homeless. Jail is probably better with shelter and constant food supply.
I am also amazed how racist America is. It is weird how the country that is supposed to be the "land of the free" and equal rights of everything is so racist. Its not that the whites are racist, everyone is racist! Not entering some neighbor-hood because of your looks!? How does that happen? I can understand if it happens because of religion or political point of view, but the way you look? In America?!
I also want to say this a very long ago, I know every one is like white people are racist against black people. Well I am not American, but I think black people are more racist. They all have this black magazine, black business man of the year, the black jokes, first black president, black I do not know what. There is also the latin type. Why do they have to state this? Just say he is American. In a country where no religion or political view really matters and it is free for all, why do you have to state his ethnicity or background?

Re: Problem with capitalism ?
This is the part I disagree with. I think we are changing the planet. Killing the planet? That's a task that's far beyond our abilities. Worst that will happen is we make life miserable for humans to live in. But fortunately (or unfortunately, if you feel that way) we have the technology to set up our own self-contained environments. So we'll go on, even after the planet is not how our ancestors (us) remember it.ZeroAX wrote:ARE YOU KIDDING ME? did you quit school when you were.... I don't know 8? The issue is that PEOPLE are racist. It's a natural part of human psychology. And it goes to an even finer distinction than race. Lots of the upper-middle class white people hate the rednecks, which are also white people. You can't get rid of racism on the mob level. The best you can do is prevent ill feelings from escalating and encourage individuals to judge people on their own individual merits.kingmohd84 wrote:I am also amazed how racist America is. You do realize that large numbers of temperature stations use to collect data are often close enough to artificial heat sources to skew said data, right? That the current usage of ocean temperatures actually haven't been measured for more than a decade? That international recording of the temperature has been done for less than two hundred years? Do you realize that air temperatures stopped rising in 1998, and started decreasing in 2002, despite larger amounts of CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere?
You do know that plants need CO2 to survive, right? That for every environmental protocol you attempt to put in place, many other industrializing nations are growing at a rate that it really doesn't put a dent in anything except your nation's manufacturing capability? That while UN accords are nice, it is incapable of enforcing them, so effectively nothing has been done.
Hey, have you ever considered the arguments against global warming, or did you hear it on the news and jump on the bandwagon, spouting heresy to anyone who immediately attacks your singular worldview? Was it the NBC "go green" Thursday night sitcom thing that made you do it? You do realize that the people who keep hyping it are also the same people with all their money in the companies that will benefit from legislation, hence making them rich(richer, I should say) at the same time, right? That by giving into it, you're simply helping out the system you seem to hate so much where the rich keep getting richer.
And for the record, I made it through grade school, and through college. I'm currently getting my master's degree, actually. I work a good bit with education majors, the future teachers of America and the world. Considering some of the things I hear them say, it's no wonder the kids keep getting spoon fed bullshit information, new teachers these days are idiots.
Kingmohd, I know you didn't mean anything by starting the topic, so don't worry. I do think if a man's willing to work hard, he should be rewarded for it. It doesn't always work out that way, since this isn't a perfect world, but it's a principle I like to hold myself to. And personally, I wish we could get over our racism, but I don't see it happening. We can stop it on a personal level, but Mr. Popo's right, we can't really stop it on a mob level, and with how America is set up, there's a very large mob, divided among a myriad of ways.
Will we ever form this perfect society we all want, where everyone is equal and has the same chances and opportunities? No, not while we're still human, since it's human to err or make mistakes. And until we get there, we'll continue being violent, brutish, racist animals to one another, because that's what we are. But we have our good qualities, so I suppose we should take a few moments and reflect on those.
Re: Problem with capitalism ?
America has never been a 100% capitalist society. The problems we are having today are not created by 100% capitalist ideas. Sure all the hardcore republicans these days like to spew the word "socialist" every other sentence as if it's the most evil term in the world, but socialist concepts have been part of America's history since the beginning.
A 100% capitalist society doesn't work any better than a 100% socialist system, it is simply a matter of where to draw the line. It's a grey area discussion, but people right now are trying to make it out to be a black or white issue. They like to say that the rich should pay the exact same percentage of taxes as the poor, and that there should be no government healthcare or welfare, but this doesn't work.
The problem is greed. You can set everyone on a level playing field, but as soon as one person starts getting ahead, things get thrown off balance. The rich just get richer and the poor get poorer, and the middle class ceases to exist. It's everyones right to rise as high as they can, but if you just let that process go unregulated everything falls apart.
