Aion

Post by J T »

This game looks beautiful!

I love the design of the landscapes and the characters/creatures.

I have a strict, personal "No MMORPGs" rule though after seeing too many people give up on spending much time in the real world in favor of an Everquest virtual world or a World of Warcraft. In my mind, buying an MMORPG is not buying a videogame, it is buying a major lifestyle change.

Still, I would love to casually drop in on this game as it looks fantastic. Anybody here planning on getting it?

My main rule with MMOs is that I will never pay for the purchase, as well as monthly fees. It has to be one or the other. Good games or not, at least Guild Wars and EVE Online represent both ends of the deal here. The games that try to grab for both are destined for failure, especially in a world where WoW already sealed the deal with most people. The Old Republic is the only MMO that has even a chance of succeeding with this model.

Aion itself looks completely dull, and none of its fans have been able to explain why its supposedly so great. Typical problem with these kinds of people.

Right now I'm enjoying Guild Wars, but I can definitely see myself buying Aion in a while.

Oh wait, you have to pay every month. Never mind.

I myself had a little fun with EVE and Silkroad Online. Only 2 MMO's I ever got into though, WoW just isn't that interesting to me. This one looks okay though, does have pretty graphics.

what is so special about this one?

I want to get into this kind of games, BUT...

I do not feel like paying monthly, the learning curve seems steep and there is so much to learn not to mention, it is endless!?
Plus there are many games to chose from which makes everything confusing and stopping me

Wow! That looks lovely too. I could see myself playing a more action oriented MMO, as long as its not a total time vampire.
