Nintendo's very own form of cock fighting.
Alright, so I don't know if this topic has already been made or not, but do we have any RB members who are into Pokemon? I know there's alot of older people here so I'm not really expecting alot of people to answer, but if you are, what are your favorite games in the series? For me, it has to be Red/Blue(Oh sweet nostalgia) and Crystal version.

i played the games when they first came out and were popular and then stopped when i thought i was too cool for them, i recently went back though and bought diamond for the ds and love it, favorite though would have to be gold/silver, which they will be remaking very soon(so i have heard)

I think you'd be surprised by how many people play Pokemon, since when you divorse it from the TV show it's a pretty decent RPG. The emphasis is all on teambuilding and strategy, which RPG fans will gobble up. I myself always enjoy a nice session of Pokemon, but at first I wouldn't even consider it. It wasn't until my brother got a copy at the urging of his friends that I discovered that when you look past the stupid TV show you had a nice RPG.

I've noticed in the past 2-3 years that many people my age either like Pokemon. I'm thinking that it's a quirk of the people that live around here to carry their childhood with them. Hell, I've heard conversations about Duck Tales and Yu-Gi-Oh.
I don't play Pokemon, but I can tell you that the Game Boy games were the only RPGs that I have ever enjoyed.

So true. The show gives the game a bad name. I love the games. Endless hours of gameplay, very simple but fun battle system, and it's fun playing against random people. It has a terrible reputation because of that horrid show, if only people could look past that crap..
Hell if it wasn't for Pokemon, I probably would have never even owned a GameBoy.

I like the first ones, Red and Blue. I do find Gold and Silver good, but something just seems a bit off with those games. It just seemed a little seamless to me. It's been years since I've played the games, so I might be wrong.
As I mentioned in other thread, I am playing Pokémon FireRed and enjoying it. But I'm playing it on an emulator, since the game's speed is too low, I have to speed it up. This aspect hasn't evolved too well in the series, IMO. It's too slow of a game to have so many random battles. Even the amount of trainer battles is ridiculous, considering they speed with which they move.
Carrying only six Pokémon also appears to be not enough now, given that there are almost five hundred monsters (with 35 being legendaries). It's a problem as well that each Pokémon is limited to four moves, especially when we take into account that we have to carry some crap monsters from time to time so that we do not waste a move slot from an useful Pokémon with an useless HM.
Also, I can stand the fact that you have to trade Pokémon to get all of them, but event-exclusive monsters are bullshit. Really, it's so unfair to the people who support Nintendo by buying the games. They are paid back by not being able to complete their PokéDexes without cheating.

Yeah, my cousin's Pokemon Blue was the reason I begged and begged for a Gameboy, so eventually I got two pockets (one transparent, one yellow) and the connector cable so I could trade with myself, having one Pokemon red and two yellows... I also had a first gen poster on my wall and drew fanart of the pokemon... I even bought a couple of decks but after that there was, "No more wasting money on that!" In my area I was a girl and about 12-13 so there was NO ONE to share or play with, and several times I tried to convince my mom to drive to Florida or Atlanta or wherever their tourney was so I could get special stuff...I have still never done that and since I'm now 23 I probably never will... but my kids will get their pokemans, goddamnit!
So yeah, considering I own at least one copy from each generation of Pokemon I would say I'm a fan.
Because of Pokemon I will try any monster-training game, and it further satiates my RPG nature...

Exactly. I got Red for Christmas the first year it was out. Along with the Ice Blue GB Pocket that came with Zelda.
That game was amazing and bringing friends from the neighborhood together and having mini tourneys with the link cable was a blast.
