Craigslist/other sellers-how do you deal with lowballers?

Oh man that powerbook guy's tableturning could have easiliy turned right back onto him. I wouldn't trust a scammer to provide a real phone number, and if he hadn't the seller would have had to eat that huge cost.

Also it's possible, although unlikely, that the scammer could take legal action for the misrepresented product.

I once had a guy with the nerve to ask me "what's the least amount of money you will take for it?" to which I only replied "what's the most amount of money you are willing to pay for it?"

Beware of that guy who shows up after arranging a deal and says, "Sorry man but I only have so and so amount of money" when you both agreed on something much more that. Never happened to me, I heard it from somebody else and they just gave in because of the drive out to the meeting place.

That's why I normally make them pick up if they're buying from me.
Never from my house, usually like a fast food joint. If they try that trick I just tell them sorry then. They usually give you the full amount once you call their bluff.


I buy from craigslist way more then I sell.

I would be curious to hear some of the lowball offers that people received.

As a seller, I don't have any qualms telling a buyer that my price is firm if the buyer is at my workplace/meeting location unless I truly don't have any other people interested in it. Then I would consider the offer.

When I sold my car 2 years ago, I listed it for $500. I had a few people reply asking if I would take $100 or $200. I consider those to be lowball offers. I had a lot of interest in the car (10+) which made me realize that I priced it too low. What would you have done? Would you have said "I got too many offers, make me your best offer and it's yours"? From my view point, $500 was fair since the car was 14 years old with 235K miles. It was a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee with V8. It was in pretty good condition but it was an old car with things going wrong on it.

These are the only listings on my local Craigslist... it sucks. The only "deals" are the posting for garage sales... sad.

Hard to blame people for making low offers. I guess if they're dicks about it, but generally it's understandable. Everyone wants a bargain.

The odd thing about this prank... or scary thing... it the guy who pulled it off was never heard from again (on the internet anyway.)
Even if he changed his screen names the fact that he had a whole forum in on the prank proved that he wasnt planning on staying anonymous. You would think he would show up somewhere on the net again...
