Multiple games, 1 disk?

Post by systemfailure »

So I am new to modding and playing backup games. Just a quick question. Can you put more than 1 game on a cd-r with a way for your system to pick the game. Or better yet, DVDs? Can saturn, dc, ps1 read dvd-r. Is there a way to compress games so I don't have to get a gigantic binder? Thanks for any help and comments. :)

Nope. You can not put more than one game on a disc and have the system be able to play them. What's more, the systems you've mentioned cannot read DVD media. Also, you shouldn't store your games in a binder/sleeves any way, they get scratched up real bad that way (from what I've heard).

Actually, I've seen people hack together multiple games on one disc for DC, Saturn, and PS1. I find it to be very pointless, considering how cheap blanks are, and how you're adversely effecting the load times of the games by forcing content to use the inner area of the disc when it wasn't meant to. You're also losing content if they had to downsample or remove media to combine the games. Fucking stupid.

When buying a binder, inspect the hell out of it. Use common sense. Ask yourself if the sleeves will scratch the discs when under tight pressure. For the most part, you want cloth pages with clear plastic sleeves that cover the label sides. Make sure the plastic isn't the kind that humidity wont make stick to the disc labels and tear off the data layer. Happens to people all the time.

Yeah, the only time I use multi-game discs is when I absolutely have to. Specifically, I can't find KOF2000 for the DC anywhere, so I have to resort to using the KOF99/2k/2k2 disc.

It's pretty convenient to be able to change the music in CvS2 and MvC2 on the fly with that particular multi-disc collection, but it is still preferable to use a stand alone disc.

As for storage... why not cases? Blockbuster usually just throws them away, so you can score butt-loads of them for free.

cases take up more space, thats all. not a big deal but if you decide to collect hundreds of backups, it starts eating into the lack of space I already have. :P

There is an obvious exception to this almost universal rule. Gamecube Multidiscs.

GCOS can make Gamecube or Wii compatible Gamecube disks with multiple games on them. Since the Gamecube used a custom DVD format that could store a maximum of 1.4GB multiple images can be burn to a disc (a full 4.7GB DVD-R) with GCOS (or a similar program) and then the individual games can be chosen from a menu. I've done this with my entire GC collection so that I can carry all GC games on a few DVDs instead of loads. Especially handy when I take my Wii round to a friends house or what-have-you!

Obviously if you were to play these games on a GC it would need to case-modded so that the full size DVD-Rs fit into it.

Wait a minute. How the hell would the GC laser reach past the 1.4GB mark? It can't physically spread out that far.

You can shrink the games. Some games are less than 1.4GB like Luigis Mansion so you can just remove the filler and fit the games on. You can still burn them to DVD-R.

Im afraid this only works on WII.
I've tried in the past to load a multi-boot game disk on my GC(with dvd5 top cover installed) and GCOS
couldn't list games that were after the 1.4gb partition.

Haven't tried it on my wii yet though...
