They're playing them in the order they were released in the states, as some FF's were deemed too 'hard' or 'mature' for american audiences by the big N back in the day.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

Fair enough. Does that mean that FF II/III/V won't be on their original hardware? Like on the gameboy or something?

II was on the Game Boy player for GC, as well as V. III will be on the DS. They have a rig that holds a webcam above the DS to capture it. The quality is surprisingly good.

Total donations so far: $13,479.50

The marathon is over. They raised $50,459.17. This is more than all of their past marathons combined and was a huge success. People will still be able to donate up until July 27th. They will be doing a Mega Man marathon starting on the 14th of next month.
