Beating, 1ccing and mastering
Re: Beating, 1ccing and mastering
Nah, speed runs are cool and everything, and obvious proof of skill in the game, but I figure just once you should experience absolutely everything in an RPG to really have considered it mastered. Yes, it is impressive to see folks beat them in incredibly short amounts of time, but I figure one's got to have studied the game extensively to be a master, and that involves all of that kind of thing. I don't expect it to all be done in a single playthrough, either.
Re: Beating, 1ccing and mastering
Striving to 1CC a game, will open up a magical word, and you will have a look on your face like, "sweet revelation". You will become more knowledgeable of the world of video games, and will realize that their are so many crappy games out there, that you shouldn't be wasting your time with. So when someone says, "Man I'm not going to waste my time 1CCing a game...their are so many games that I want to play." they are missing the big picture..because, in the long run, you are cutting out so many crappy games, that really you are saving time. Along with 1CCing comes a deeper understanding and appreciation for a games mechanics, layouts (not aesthetics), and challenges.
Re: Beating, 1ccing and mastering
Except that ends up applying to only a specific subset of games. The RPGs don't have a 1cc concept, and what about games like Mario Galaxy where you might die a lot but the lives come faster than you can spend them?RemyC wrote:Striving to 1CC a game, will open up a magical word, and you will have a look on your face like, "sweet revelation". Plus there are games like Indigo Prophecy where part of the fun is seeing what happens when you "screw up."MrPopo wrote:Except that ends up applying to only a specific subset of games. Even some games that would be candidates for a 1cc have fun death animations that are worth checking out.

Re: Beating, 1ccing and mastering
I really think 1cc only applies toward arcade style games.
Re: Beating, 1ccing and mastering
So what I think you're trying to say is...most games are crap and shouldn't be played, except those in your favorite genre, and only the handful that you actually care about, which likely will only be the first ones you play, since nostalgia is really what keeps pulling us back to retrogaming, or whichever ones IGN and general consensus say are good, since obviously the point of playing a lot of things and finding a hidden gem is worthless, since they're all crap anyway.RemyC wrote:Striving to 1CC a game, will open up a magical word, and you will have a look on your face like, "sweet revelation". Do you actually like video games?
Re: Beating, 1ccing and mastering
What the hell is 1cc?

Not at all (to everything you said). Go out and play whatever you want, if you find it entertaining, that's justification enough to play it.Ack wrote:So what I think you're trying to say is...
What I'm saying is that you will develop a higher quality taste for games, once you adopt the 1CC mindset.

Actually it is 1 credit completion.

That's a rather pompus statement. Let me paraphrase it so it's written like it comes off to us.RemyC wrote:Not at all (to everything you said). Go out and play whatever you want, if you find it entertaining, that's justification enough to play it.Ack wrote:So what I think you're trying to say is...

"Feel free to play whatever you want; it's not my fault you can't understand quality. Come back when you've learned something."
