Lets talk about the Conduit

Post by Curlypaul »

Everyone else seems to be lately so why not.

I've been playing it and I love it. Its solid no frills shooting, a nice selection of weapons and a twisting plot. The online seems fun too although I've concentrating on the single player missions so far.

I think its been unfairly critised by a lot of people. Its not entirely perfect or ground breaking or anything but it does what it says on the tin. Maybe its because my fave shooter ever is Perfect Dark so my expectations might be different to most peoples.

I hope this sells as HVS should be rewarded for going out on a limb, abandoning the licences games and making something that gamers would want to play.

What do you think?

I've not bought it yet, just from having too many games still needing played, but I plan to once it comes down in price a bit.

I get the impression that as long as you don't go into it expecting a Halo or CoD beater then it's a fun game. I'm not a big fan of FPS anyway so if it's just simple blasting fun then that's enough for me.

It's not bad. It's a good indication of just how great wiimote plus nunchuck is for FPS's. I especially like the large amount of customization you have for it. The gameplay isn't really inspired, but that's ok. We need some tech demos first before the good stuff hits. I personally think you could make a System Shock/Deus Ex style game for the Wii, since you have all the necessary control options to allow easy access to things like inventory and skills.

I like the real time control sensitivity adjustment, it makes setting things up as you like them really easy.

Like you say Mr Popo, this is really just a demostation of how well it could be done with a little effort. The graphics engine is very impressive and hopefully The Grinder and whatever other games HVS have up their sleaves will build on it.

Incognito D - it is just simple blasting fun. Halo never grabbed me because I dont like vehicle sections in FPS games, with the exception of tanks in CoD they arent that fun to me and get in the way of the fighting. CoD WaW is good but its getting a bit long in the tooth. I'm tired of using the same old guns to reproduce bits of Enemy at the Gates

I had high hopes for this game. The Wii needed an exclusive title like this one, but on my budget and the fact that my Wii collects dust at this point, I probably won't get it until its cheap used. Hopefully it sells enough to encourage other developers to try similar ventures on the Wii in the future.

on one hand, i really liked that high voltage made it only for the wii and that they are throwing their hat in the hardcore wii games market. On the other, i played it for a day or two- got about 80% through it and decided it was a bit mediocre and wanted to quit.

I like that you can customize the controls. When i started i was often hitting one button thinking it would do something else. After all, how many fps games are there on the wii? There is no standard controller.

I liked that you can edit most of the controls on the fly.

I liked the concept design of the aliens/trust and their guns.

I liked the invisible mines. That made for some really interesting gameplay and tense moments. I wish though, that they didn't make the mines beep at you, but instead flash a light on the hud or something. The beeping got annoying at times.

I hated that even though the controls were totally custom, i still couldn't get it to accelerate the way i wanted. I had the thing cranked up to the max, with the wiimote 'deadzone' as small as i could get it. The game still felt sluggish to me. Quake homebrew did this better.

I hated the 'puzzles' to open the doors and secret areas. Switches were always on the walls, never in weird places. It was too easy and I really don't want to spend my time running around an already cleared out space looking for the 4th invisible knob on the wall. Not rewarding because they were always just on the wall somewhere instead of hidden. Not fun because it broke up the action to get me to walk around a room I cleared out a few times. When i saw the pyramid puzzle in the videos online i thought they would get harder? They were pants on head retarded easy to the point of me wondering why they were even there.

The audio/text cut scenes were stupid. Popping a movie in there isn't a big deal and will actually immerse me. Text on a screen doesn't. Not to mention that it only highlights how horrible the script is.

Often i felt cheated by the game. I would get hit with two sniper charge shots as soon as i enter a room and just die. Then, i would do the same thing i did last time, but clear it out no problem. Most of the deaths seemed like just total chance happenings.

The enemy AI was fucking silly retarded. It seemed like they had two modes, running at you and firing occasionally, or standing still and firing occasionally. Often bad guys could not navigate around boxes and instead would just kinda get stuck. To make fighting them more intense later in the game, rather than make the enemies smarter, they just made them more plentiful. The 20 retards just firing all willy nilly coupled with chance happenings i mentioned earlier kind of made me realize that I wasn't getting better at the game, and neither was the enemy. We both just decided to roll the dice. Not exactly rewarding gameplay.

The infinitely respawn of enemies out of the portals I'm torn on. I like that you need to fight your way through and shut them down, but infinite enemies has always been something i had a problem with. It breaks the illusion. If there are infinite enemies behind the portal, why not just have them all rush in? Why have them only go one at a time, and only when the guy dies. Why not one every second? I kind of wish that instead the game would give me a choice of how to handle those situations. I could try to survive wave after wave of bad guys until they run out, or i could shut down the portals.

I played only a couple rounds of multiplayer, and it wasn't fun. The nintnedo wifi set up is so backwards that from the time i wanted to look for a game to actually playing a game was about 10 minutes. I shit you not. Between looking for local games, to world wide games, to games needing players, to watching a game but not spawning in... ugh. Once i was in game, it had a very quake/perfect dark vibe to it that i was enjoying, but the characters would move sooooo slowly. It seemed to take forever to find anyone. And when i did find someone it was over so quickly that it seemed i was mostly just walking around rather than firing guns at dudes. Kind of boring. It certainly wouldn't trump the call of duty world at war multiplayer on the wii.

IN CONCLUSION even though i hated a lot of the mechanics of play, i don't regret buying it. I had a good time with it, and learned a few things about what i would look for in a wii fps. Plus, I want high voltage to learn and fix these things in preparation for the next game. And, I want to show companies that i'll buy hardcore games on the wii. If that means buying all 3 of them a year, i'm down.

If you are considering buying it- i would wait for the price to drop and buy it new. It isn't worth the 50 dollar price tag, but it is worth actually buying new to show support.

see- this is the core of my problem with the game. It is totally a no frills shooting game. But at this point, i've played so many fps games that i need some good fucking frills to keep me interested, or i'm just going to go play a better no frills shooter.

I need some fucking frills in my life.

It's a cookie cutter FPS.Not much to say other than that.I thought it was just Ok.It sucks ass that they didn't include a split screen multiplayer on the system.WHY NOT?I don't want to play the game online with a bunch of 12 year old jerks, i want to play with my rl friends,None of which have WI-FI.Overall the game is just....meh..You know why would i want to play this when i could play halo 3,Resistance 1&2,Gears of war,Bioshock, ect.I am not just a modern day junkie either i love doom,Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark allot better than the conduit.
