Trust me, it's there. I've seen it.
This year I went to Sakura-con, since it was cheap and being held a few blocks from my apartment.
Never again.

Why?
I went to my first con this year and loved it. I find watching all the crazy people and running into all the cool/weird stuff to be part of the experience that makes a con a con. Namely not giving a damn and letting your inner fanboy out for a few days.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

The people at PAX are my kind of crazy. The people at Sakura-con were their own brand of crazy that just frightened me. I enjoy watching anime, but I'm not into it like those people are.

The last time I went to a convention I saw the same things that generally keep me from going to conventions.
A) 12 year olds making out. Makes me want to hurl.
B) Scantily clad underage kids. Makes me feel creepy and disgusted.
C) Scantily clad fat, sweaty people. Again, makes me want to hurl, though harder this time.
D) Screaming middle and high schoolers starting drama for drama's sake. Makes me want to smack someone.
E) Kids. I started to go to conventions when I was their age. It's been a decade. It makes me feel old.
E) The smell. It offends me.
And the way these kids all act. It's like they suddenly believe that social and societal rules are thrown out the window the instant they arrive at a convention. They dress in these outfits and act like idiots, which results in extra stress for the location and con staff. Hell, they had to ban those yaoi paddle things at Momocon a few years ago after somebody broke one over a guy.
And then there's that fan community. They make me want to lock all the exits and set fire to the building while they're all inside.
