Thanks, after all having seen the series and movies about 4 or so times and looking for all the info on the ending that Gainax has to offer has to pay off some how.

Also whenever you re-watch the series/movies pay close attention to Rei in TEoE as she explains the whole thing to shinji when they're melded together as one, yet separate being during Third Impact.

Since Shinji is in EVA 01 which is the catalyst for Third Impact at the time of it's occurrence he becomes 'god' for all intents and purposes given the nature of the events and his bond to Rei, who then lets him decide the outcome and fate of humanity.

But as Shinji wishes simply to be left alone his command is taken quite literally causing all of humanity to remain in their LCL state caused by third impact. Upon realising what he's done Shinji attemps to reverse his accidental decision to effectively kill all of humanity only to be told by Rei that it is irreversible, but that he can chose to give those with a strong enough will the power to leave the LCL sea and return to humanity if they so wish. Upon leaving instrumentality and losing his 'godhood' Shinji is deposited on the beach front of the LCL ocean next to Asuka, as she is currently the only other soul with the will to leave instrumentality due to the earlier events regarding her mother and EVA 02.

After all of this is said and done Shinji and Asuka are effectively left to be the new 'Adam and Lilith' and guide humanity back towards reality and a life free of instrumentality.

Like I said before, really pay close attention to Rei in TEoE as she explains the whole thing.

Also listen to the Bridge Bunnies (Maya, Aoba etc...) as they actively describe very well what's happening before they simply begin babbling incoherently as Rei/Lilith's hand flows through the command center.

EDIT: The reason everyone starts going apeshit when Rei/Lilith's hand goes through NERV central is that since Rei/Lilith is a 'godlike' being in that state everyone she touches is imbued and bombarded with infinite knowledge causing their human brains and psyche to collapse due to being forced to process 'godlike' amounts of information all at once.

Oh and on the subject of Asuka, her eyes chage color a the end of TEoE as well from their original blue to where one stays blue and the other is now half brown and half red. This is due to the fact that Asuka is now the new Lilith so that's where the red comes from, and since she has now become the motherly emotional anchor for Shinji she gains the brown from both Misato and Yui's acceptance of her future role with Shinji.

I so wish this was 10 years ago, when I actually knew wtf Evangelion was about. I'd love to join in on this conversation, but I'd need to take a fucking 10 hour refresher course before hand.

Don't worry Moz, I haven't actually seen in my DVD's in almost two years and am working off of my memory of the series/movies.

Although this discussion has prompted me to pop my DVD's in again and re-watch the series/movies tomorrow and Sunday even though I'd been waiting until later this year when the the first Rebuild movie's US DVD was released.

Although this discussion has prompted me to pop my DVD's in again and re-watch the series/movies tomorrow and Sunday even though I'd been waiting until later this year when the the first Rebuild movie's US DVD was released.

Oh well I do have to say I watched the first rebuild DVD the week it was released in Japan. It was good. It was the first anime I watched in full in years. They're doing a great job remaking the series. Well it's not really a remake, but it's more than a touch up. It's kind of a reedit with a better pace, and every frame has been accurately redone in better quality. It was nice to hear some of the music recorded much more professionally, but they replaced a few too many songs with new ones that I just don't like at all.

Yea, knowing this info from 10 years ago you could freaking be a god and would have been famous, for knowing Evangelion.

Funny, how did we go from Gunsmith Cats to Evangelion. Unless, Any anime<=> Evangelion, but all anime is rooted to Eva with anime>discussion of ADV license=Evangelion or any anime in any company>discussion of reprint>auto<=>Evangelion.

Oh yea, if you really want to get down to the biggest debate in Evangelion, its "Who Shot Kaji?" Kinda like Dallas and that whole "Who shot JR?".

I still say one of my favorite parts of ToE was when they flashed the various death threats they got in response to the last two episodes.
