Is that Perfect Collection the so called "Neon Genesis Evangelion Renewal?"
If so, I'd certainly buy something like that, but I hate NGE's ending. Hope the movies fix it.

Re: Gun Smith PI
They do. Sort of. The real issue that this series has the the "what the hell is going on?" factor, I've watched the it a couple times and I still have questions. Definitely more satisfying than the end of the original series though.jfrost wrote:If so, I'd certainly buy something like that, but I hate NGE's ending. Hope the movies fix it.
On another note, has anyone seen the Rebuild movies? I'm kinda curious about them.
Re: Gun Smith PI
I have re-watched the endings a couple of times too, along with the slightly better ending of The End of Evangelion. I think I have a pretty good idea of what's going on, but I'm unsatisfied.
It looks like some half-baked bullshit put together to seem "deep". It's not deep at all. It's ridiculous. It's horrible that a conspiracy to accelerate human evolution is put to an end by some stupid teenager discovering his individuality. Wow, LOGICAL.

Re: Gun Smith PI
I didn't get human instrumentality at all either though, they explain the theory but I have no idea how the evolution reaches that point, or how Shinji seems to still be an individual despite it occurring. Oh well, it's not like the series has been lauded for its endings.jfrost wrote:It looks like some half-baked bullshit put together to seem "deep". It's not deep at all. It's ridiculous. Yeah the original movies from '97 crank up the mindfuck to 11, but the new Rebuild movies are supposed to finally give us a clear and decisive ending.Dylan wrote:They do. Sort of. Ironically as well Sega is to blame for the way the series originally ended; due to EVA having originally aired in the Friday night primetime family hour timeslot Sega became preoccupied with the potential backlash from angry parents as the series became progressively darker and mature. Eventually they pulled the plug on their AD revenue (Sega advertised the Saturn and Genesis/Mega Drive extensively during EVA's commercial breaks) and direct funding (Hikari and Asuka play Saturn when Asuka stays over at Hikari's house for the first time, as well as having most of the electronics and almost all the TV's in the series branded with Sega logos) for the series before the last wo episodes were animated leaving Gainax to create the horrible ending due to the lack of any real budget.

Re: Gun Smith PI
I saw the first film, and its basicly summing up the first 8 episodes in 2 hours. I will say this, the 4th Angel is pretty sweet, youll see.Dylan wrote:They do. Sort of. When i got to the last 2 ep of the series, it took me a week to try to feel like watching it, and when i did, i really didnt care what was going on, but i had to suck it up (again) to finish it up. Ive got the End of Eva movie i need to watch (again). Death and Rebirth is basicly the last 2 episodes panned out, with Cello's and Violins mixed in.
I think in the end, its a series that is complete without the feeling of "completion". Its open to any thought on how you precive it, or the mass line up of 14 year old fanfic writers trying to finish it up. To me, i find how it ended interesting, and that stirs people...
Ive got that scene lined up for future amv material. Yea, toward the ending of the series is a SEGA promo in bits and pieces.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote: Eventually they pulled the plug on their AD revenue (Sega advertised the Saturn and Genesis/Mega Drive extensively during EVA's commercial breaks) and direct funding (Hikari and Asuka play Saturn when Asuka stays over at Hikari's house for the first time, as well as having most of the electronics and almost all the TV's in the series branded with Sega logos) for the series before the last wo episodes were animated leaving Gainax to create the horrible ending due to the lack of any real budget.

Wow, I suspected that. Makes sense with the end of the series, too. The later episodes had to be hacked to pieces when they aired (at least here). I thought Sega's blatant advertising was awesome though, my favorite product placement scene is when Toji and Kensuke are playing on their Saturn.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Ironically as well Sega is to blame for the way the series originally ended; due to EVA having originally aired in the Friday night primetime family hour timeslot Sega became preoccupied with the potential backlash from angry parents as the series became progressively darker and mature. Re: Gun Smith PI
I was actually talking about the Rebuild movies at first. Sorry for the confusion. I watched The End of Evangelion and Death and Rebirth. TEoE has some cool action sequences (Asuka vs. Evas), but it isn't much better than the regular series.
I didn't know about Sega's influence. But I agree with them, in fact. The second half of the series gets increasingly nonsensical (if that's mature...) and boring. It's not only the last two episodes, though they're specially bad.

Re: Gun Smith PI
Since Shinji is in EVA 01 which is the catalyst for Third Impact at the time of it's occurrence he becomes 'god' for all intents and purposes given the nature of the events and his bond to Rei, who then lets him decide the outcome and fate of humanity.Dylan wrote:I didn't get human instrumentality at all either though, they explain the theory but I have no idea how the evolution reaches that point, or how Shinji seems to still be an individual despite it occurring. But as Shinji wishes simply to be left alone his command is taken quite literally causing all of humanity to remain in their LCL state caused by third impact. Upon realising what he's done Shinji attemps to reverse his accidental decision to effectively kill all of humanity only to be told by Rei that it is irreversible, but that he can chose to give those with a strong enough will the power to leave the LCL sea and return to humanity if they so wish. Upon leaving instrumentality and losing his 'godhood' Shinji is deposited on the beach front of the LCL ocean next to Asuka, as she is currently the only other soul with the will to leave instrumentality due to the earlier events regarding her mother and EVA 02.
After all of this is said and done Shinji and Asuka are effectively left to be the new 'Adam and Lilith' and guide humanity back towards reality and a life free of instrumentality.
