Lately I have been browsing web sites looking at auctions for Genesis Model 1's that have the High Definition Graphics on them. I researched further and found a great site that lists pretty much every type of Model 1, and Model 2 Genesis released:

However, I was wondering whether or not to look for a TMSS or non-TMSS variant. I've generally heard that non-TMSS actually has the upper hand with no copyright screen at the beginning and better audio. However I've also heard that non-TMSS have slight rainbow banding. Which do you guys think is the better variant to look for?

Re: Genesis Model 1 High Definition Graphics
I have three model one Genesi. A "high definition" non-tmss rev4 motherboard, A "high definition" tmss rev6 motherboard, and A "non-high definition" rev6 motherboard. The rev6 mobo lacks an ext port, but otherwise, They're all the exact same. When I hook these consoles up, I can see no difference at all.
I think rev7 motherboards are the only ones you need to avoid. Everything else is gold.

They used that term "high definition" a lot during that early 16-bit era.
It's not the same as what we know now as "high definition"

If only that serial port on the back was one for VGA...racketboy wrote:They used that term "high definition" a lot during that early 16-bit era.

Heck yes, I'd love to connect a VGA monitor to my Genesis.
