I got a multitap, some friends, controllers and Guardian Heroes, but now....how the hell do I get more than 2 players on story mode?

Anyone know?

I haven't played in years, but I don't think you can. I may be wrong. I thought the 3-4 player stuff was just for the other modes.

I looked in the instruction book for this game; and it appears story mode is only 2 players.

You can play 1-6 players only in VS. mode.
I could be wrong since the instruction book in question is Japanese.

Replies are all correct. Story most is only 2P. Battle mode allows more players.

If you want a good 3P side-scroller, I recommend Three Dirty Dwarves. The game is actually really fun with 3 people. Give it a try.

I got banned from UGgamer for my share ratio because I downloaded SFZ3 and Final Fight revenge and no one would download from me, I left the thing open for weeks and got a measly share ratio
