Pretty sure you need a converter.
Re: Wait wait wait wait wait. (Turbografx 16)
You definitely need a converter to play japanese hu cards on the turbo. BUT, if you have a Turbo CD-ROM attatchment then you can start importing PC Engine CDs. There is no region check between PC Engine CD-ROM2 and the Turbo CD. Hope that helps.
Re: Wait wait wait wait wait. (Turbografx 16)
Ya but often the good converters are costlier than buying the pc-engine. Some don't work on all games. The most well known is the kisado which goes for 120-180 on Ebay, but sometimes there are others for a decent price.
Systems: Famicom with Nes adapter, Turbo Grafx, JVC x' Eye, Super Famicom with SNES adapter, 32x, Virtual Boy, Saturn, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, X-Box, PS1/PS2 (slim), Gamecube with game boy player, Wii, PS3 80 gig
Handhelds: Neo-Geo pocket color, PSP, Game boy Advance SP, Game Gear, Tec Toy (Mega drive portable) Playpal (Master system/game gear)
Capcom Arcade Machine (Speed Rumbler,1986)

Buying a pc-engine or a japanese duo is the best way to go, converters are not cheap or easy to find and modding is complicated for the inexperienced.Killette wrote:Ya but often the good converters are costlier than buying the pc-engine.

Yep, the only problem as mentioned is converters can be pretty pricey..Mathius wrote:You definitely need a converter to play japanese hu cards on the turbo. Another option is the flash cart that Racket wrote about. You can cross region with it. I ended up with a Jap Duo so I can play my imports, but I lost my ability to play all my domestic releases (save for play on the Express). I still have my Kisado from back in the day, great convertor -> It's simple and works.
I had a hard time tracking down a PC Engine Core at a price I wanted to pay a while ago, but your luck may vary or you may be ok with the price.

US to Jap
and
Jap to US
Converters are expensive for both.

Re: Wait wait wait wait wait. (Turbografx 16)
I seem to recall that a Jap system cannot play US HuCarts <period>, it has some lockout code to prevent oversea sales back in the day. I may be wrong on this or there may be a mod, I haven't bothered to look it up. The US system can play imports by reversing the pin order. The Kisado literary just puts the cart in backwards.sneth wrote:US to Jap

US system w/ convertor = everything, Hu's and CDs
JP system = no US HuCards (but really, who cares? You can get the imports on the cheap)
