Turboduo
I am about to buy an American turboduo console and I heard that the american one's tend to break down faster and easier than the Japanese PC-Engine Duo and I was just wondering if anybody could clarify on this subject or know if this is true. Thanks everybody

Re: Turboduo
I've had one for awhile now and I have to say it's been running smoothly. Problem is that a lot of duo's sound messes up because of the age of the caps inside it. It's an easy fix but you would have to operate on it.
Re: Turboduo
Or find a buyer that already did the cap replacment. I've heard of drives failing also. The PC Engine forum details it.Marspants wrote: It's an easy fix but you would have to operate on it.
My TG-16 CDROM did die on me, the "core" still works fine. I ended up picking up a Japanese Duo a year ago for a good price locally but it's caps were gone. I replaced the caps with out to much trouble and now it's peachy.

Re: Turboduo
You wont find empirical data to say the jap duo is better. I have a US CD attachment, and the quality is extremely high. At the time, they had no corners to cut with CD construction.

Re: Turboduo
Yeah, I have also heard that is a common issue with TurboDuo units..Marspants wrote:I've had one for awhile now and I have to say it's been running smoothly. Re: Turboduo
Some of the later Japanese Duos don't have the same issues with capacitors. Early Duos of both regions are susceptible to cap failure. Sometimes the CD drives do die, but that's not particularly common. In fact, even in the original CD-unit the only part that's been known to fail with any regularity is a single plastic gear that happens to be an odd size and thus hard to replace.

Re: Turboduo
By "sound" do you mean loss of ability to play the audio tracks during play? Mine can do the in game "beeps", but the actual soundtrack stopped coming through..Arbitern1 wrote:Yeah sound is shit on turbo duos.....I hate having to fix em up..
