PC-Engine/TurboGrafX-16 games come to PSN

Post by Bootaaay »

The Japanese PSN store today got the first set of PC-Engine games to hit Sony's online service, making the PC-Engine the first non-Sony console to have it's titles on PSN.

The first 4 titles to be released are;
  • Bomberman '94
  • Devil's Crush
  • New Adventure Island
  • Sengoku Mahjong
The games are all priced at the standard ¥600 price of PSX Classics and will play on PS3, PSP via memory stick or PSP via Remote Play.

Yeah, i'm hoping we get Lords of Thunder & Star Soldier soon.

Anyways, I just picked up Adventure Island & Devil Crash and the emulator running these seems to be really quite good - the games play in windowed mode and there's no filtering, plus like the PSX classics the manuals are built-in. However, unlike the PSX classics, the PCE games have the options to save state, load state and import/export save state's betwen the PS3 & a PSP.

Wow, that's some handy functionality. If they keep releasing other PCE titles and possibly even titles from other consoles with those same functions the PSP will be the retro portable of choice for non-modders even.
