I find most of Wes Anderson's films to be long/boring/unfunny. Most of them strike me as quirky for the sake of being quirky. This one, though, I thought was good for a few laughs. Plus, you have to love the David Bowie covers.jfrost wrote: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou: Long, boring.

This is one of the movies I grew up with (thanks to my dad), so it always will hold a special place in my heart. I'd argue that Cary Elwes also does a fantastic Robin Hood, but he was doing parody.dsheinem wrote:The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)– Though some might say it is a good thing, I bemoan the fact that they don’t make them like this anymore. I ended up watching Renaissance Man last night. An interesting take on the "teacher turns troubled kids around" tale, since it's Danny DeVito being an asshole and shaping up some army recruits using Hamlet. And in the process he shapes up himself.

I've been meaning to watch that Robin Hood version. The only film of Errol Flynn that I remember watching has been They Died With Their Boots On, and while I enjoyed it I realize that it was a pretty ridiculous interpretation of Custer's Last Stand.
I also just watched a John Carpenter movie, one of his non-horror films, Starman. I have to say, it's the oddest road movie I know of, but then again I don't know of many where an alien scout is shot down while visiting Earth, takes the form of a woman's dead husband, and then gets said woman to drive him across the United States so he can be picked up in a crater before the military gets him or he dies. Before watching it I thought I'd hate it for some reason. After watching it, I've discovered I really liked it a lot. It's pretty stereotypical, and the plot doesn't throw any real curves at you, but I still liked it.

Monty Python The Life of Brian: The religious satire was witty, but everything else was too crude for me to enjoy...

Vampire Hunter D & Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust
Both were tremendous movies. Kinda make me want to play Castlevania.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. This is the first time I've seen it since it was in theatres.
Currently watching the R-rated cut of "Hellbound: Hellrasier 2", though I have the unrated cut on DVD.
Also, gonna see "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" tomorrow. Got my ticket and everything.

I always thought that this movie, like almost everything else Monty Python, is layer upon layer of comedic brilliance in each and every scene. This is also their best film (though not my favorite). Since you seemed to enjoy the religious satire (which is what most people object to in the film), I'm wondering - what do you find to be crude about it?
