Sometimes nostalgia biases people towards liking certain video games. I'm a little guilty of this myself with stuff like 007 Goldeneye and Sonic 3 and Knuckles. 007 Goldeneye I still regard as being great and awesome and amazing, but when I try to play it with friends who got started on later FPS's they say, "This must have been great in 1998, but today it just doesn't measure up.", which I have to admit is true. I love Sonic 3 and Knuckles, but it's probably just my memories of when it I played it a long time ago, since I've noticed everyone else online seems to like Sonic 2 more.
Then there are cases where I love a video game that is old as dirt, but I never even knew it existed back in the day. Case in point: missile command. I wasn't even alive when it came out yet I friggin' love it. Or Contra. The first time I ever played this was when I unlocked it on Contra 4 for the Nintendo DS, but it still knocks my socks off.
Are there any old games you love without being biased by nostalgia?

Galaga.
Galaga I always assumed was one of a million Space Invader clones. But when we played it for Together Retro, it was the first time I ever touched it. And because I spent more than a few minutes trying it, I ended up loving it for what it was: far superior to Space Invaders! Everything about Galaga is amazing, and ahead of its time... the graphics, the music, the difficulty curve. Amazing game. No nostalgia.

Pretty much anything before the Playstation age thats not on the Genesis, and even then, I only had about 7 Genesis games when I first got one after my Playstation.
Being 15, I don't really have that nostalgia with older games other people have.

Older. Not wiser.

Outrun
Lunar: Silver Star
Street Fighter 2
There's too many to count. I had a genesis, but only like 5 games for it. After that I got a ps2. I'm 21, but still missed out on tons of retro games.

Tons of them. I'm often playing old games for the first time. There aren't many left that I've not played, but when I play something I really like I can't shut up about it.
Like Final Fantasy 6. I played it for the first time last year. I tried to play before but couldn't get into it, I had a chunk of time to play it, and I really enjoyed it. Great game, with no real attachment to it at all.

Aero The Acrobat for the Genesis.
I never heard of it until I picked up the cart from a garage sale. Lots of fun, but frustrating as hell. He's just as bad with spikes as Mega Man. T_T
