Chapter 3: Rise and Return of Travethius
The molten residue left over from the Battle of Immoshad* had worked its way into the soil of the Lost Forest, thus releasing Dr. Travethius from his Stabilization Capsule. He was welcomed from his 20 year sleep by the remaining Nanoslime essence of Old God.
"Dr. Travethius, welcome back," Old God said in his low gurgling voice.
"I'm. . . Free? How could this have happened?" Asked Travethius
"Fortunately for us the F-sectorites have been so busy rebuilding forces they haven't had time to send a proper cleaning crew to take care of the molten residue from the Battle of Immoshad. After the explosion they were so worried about the radiation effecting their last men, they decided to wait. Fortunately the residue burned through your Capsule's enforcement layers a few years sooner than they expected"
"How long?"
"It's been twenty years, Travethius. We have a lot of work to do."
"Do we continue the cyborg enhancements?"
"Yes. . . but we'll need to find a new group of volunteers."
“And what of Heston?”
“Heston has been rejected by me. And New God will not take him in either. We only need concern ourselves with the tasks at hand”
“And Jim and Jack?”
“They gave up their J-Sectorite positions to start a pork rind company.”
“A lot has changed in 20 years.”
“But our goal remains the same, Travethius. First things first though. I need to get out of my nanoslime form, I cannot assist you in my full capacity like this”
“How do we transport you? The F-sectorites will surely have blockades and Turvadian sensors set up to detect any nanoslime deities.”
“A petroleum tanker should do the trick.”
Travethius and Old God quickly made their way through the Lost Forest, heading toward the highway. Suddenly the ground began to shake, a large crack formed in the dirt, roots began to creep up and treebark began to form. It took the shape of a man. A chipmunk climbed out his hollow eyesocket and scurried down his rough leg. Maple syrup dripped out his knotty nipples. The treeman spoke.
“Look what we have here; Travethius and what’s left of Old Goddy boy.”
“Who are you?” Travethius asked
“It’s Heston, doctor. . .”Old God replied before the tree had a chance.
The tree man recoiled at this name.
“Heston is no more!” He shouted. “The molten residue from the battle has melded me with the earth itself! I am SOILMAN!”
Dr. Travethius stepped forward.
“Don’t try anything, Old God may be nothing but nanoslime right now but he still won’t be harmed by you. . . Soilman”
Soilman let out a bellowing chuckle from his barky throat, “Harm Old God? I wouldn’t dream of it! But I know what you’re after, and you won’t get it before me!”
“Old God will be reconstituted soon enough and any problems you may cause for us between now and then will be remembered when The Great Judgement comes.
“Ah, you Old Godders and your supposed Great Judgement. . .”
“If you don’t believe in it then are you trying to gain ground with New God?” Travethius inquired.
“I need neither one. All that matters is who possesses the Energon Sapphire. And soon that shall be me!”
Soilman melded into the dirt below and dissappeared.
Travethius looked at Old God.
“Don’t worry,” Old God gurgled. “He’s no closer to the Sapphire than we. Soon our cyborg army will be complete and we will have all the advantage we need. . . Well, almost –“
“Almost?” Travethius wondered aloud.
“One thing at a time Travethius, you’ll soon understand the full extent of my plan.”
It will be read by Morgan Freeman.

Re: Audiobook recommendations
Stephen King's Dark Tower was good except the narrator got brain damage in a motorcycle accident so he couldn't do the last 2 books and that really screwed it up.
Re: Audiobook recommendations
I really wanted to flag that wall of text for removal, but don't know if that is appropriate. heh. I'm a jerk.
Pretty much any book that is classic or new is going to have an audiobook counterpart. I usually listen to stuff that is pretty light reading. Fun stuff that doesn't require much thought so i can work too. I guess you are doing that too. I have no idea what you like to read, but here are my suggestions.
max brooks' books. World war z, zombie survival guide
Harry potter books
Lord of the rings books
The Bro Code by Barney Stinson - only if you love the show "how i met your mother"
I am legend
anything by howard zinn is usually good if you like history
You can find torrent packs of cheesy famous authors out there if you are into that. I don't care for most of them, but it might give you a good starting point for searching or thinking about what you would like to read. I've seen John Grisham, dean kootz, Steven king, ann rice, and clive barker floating around the internet.
I once also found a halo book set. I guess there are 5 novels? I avoided that one.
They are sometimes pretty cheesy, but you could also look for radio plays. The war of the worlds springs to mind. I just downloaded a night of the living dead radio play. Haven't listened yet though. There are quite a few volumes of twilight zone radio plays.
There is good stuff out there. You just have to sift through all the self help and instructional bullshit. Whenever that drys up- you could always check out 'this american life' programs. It is a public radio show hosted by Ira glass. They have a huge amount of them online streaming for free on their site.

Re: Audiobook recommendations
my post is missing...
Anyway, I once heard an audiobook read and interpreted by Tim Curry. It was wonderful- he voiced every character from prepubescent girls to animals...
The book was about a necromancer. I wish I could remember the title!!
Oh, and see if you can find the Screwtape letters

Re: Audiobook recommendations
'A Long Way Down' by Nick Hornby was pretty good. The story's told round-robin by four different characters. Three different actors do the parts. Damn funny.
The guy that read 'A Confederacy of Dunces' was really good. He covered a pretty wide variety of New Orleans accents.

Re: Audiobook recommendations
Not an audio book, but I really enjoy the radio adaptation of the Star Wars trilogy that NPR did a while back.
