DOS has a pause command. Could you put some "pause" in autoexec.bat to help you see the message better?

thanks a lot, I have never heard about this :)

so I used the very first configuration that had those problems with memory BUT I deleted this line
123?DEVICE=C:\FDOS\BIN\HIMEM.EXE

and now it says

EMM386:no XMS handler found, required something failed - driver aborted

Well, it doesn't have enough memory as you deleted the line that loads the memory manager, himem.sys.

I'm about to head out for a few hours, but when I get back I'll sit down and make a good set of files for you if noone else has or you've figured it out. This will give me a reason to set up my old DOS PC again. :)

well thank you really much for that :) If it works, I will be really really happy :) This old PC was giving me nothing but problems so far :(
