Honestly, I'd beat Chadarnook in Owzer's house first. For three reasons: 1) Chadarnook really isn't that hard, and if you're level 60 you should be ok. 2) I never liked the Phoenix Cave in the star-shaped mountain, so I would always do it last, which was best because then I had enough members for two full teams. 3) There's no dragon in Owzer's house, and the only dragon I'd prefer to fight without healing items would be the white one in the Tower of the Magi.
As for the rate of learning, I believe Phoenix's is better for Cure 3 than Starlet's, but you'll have to keep Phoenix on folks a lot longer to learn Life 3. Life 3's nifty, but not really necessary.
Jeez, we're better than a FAQ...
Help in ff6
Re: Help in ff6
As I recall, Starlet learns Cure 3 at 1x, and Phoenix learns it at 2x, which is a huge improvement. If you buy the Seraphim from Tzen (there's a guy hiding in the trees, he darts in and out) you can get Cure 2 at 5x as I recall.

Re: Help in ff6
I'd argue that learning life 3 is easier than getting strong enough to take an ultima in the face without getting wiped out after the fight against magimaster, but apart from that pretty much.Ack wrote:Life 3's nifty, but not really necessary.

Wow, we sure have a good working knowledge of game mechanics.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.
Re: Help in ff6
You can circumvent it with Osmose/Rasp. The first time I beat MagiMaster I did it with Life 3 and taking his spells on the chin, but the second time I had learned that you can Berserk him for lulz. Then I remembered midway through the battle that he Ultimas on death, which is bad. So I spammed Osmose/Rasp until he ran out of MP (so he wouldn't be able to cast) and he died. Which makes Life 3 completely unnecessary.Dylan wrote:I'd argue that learning life 3 is easier than getting strong enough to take an ultima in the face without getting wiped out after the fight against magimaster, but apart from that pretty much.Ack wrote:Life 3's nifty, but not really necessary.

Re: Help in ff6
Like I said, stuff in that tower dies when it runs out of MP. To make it even better, don't bother with beserk. Just wear reflect rings. He'll run out of MP faster because he's constantly casting spells. When he runs out, sure he'll attempt to cast Ultima, but he'll get the "Out of MP" message and then die.
Truthfully, no boss fight is really that difficult in the World of Ruin, and since you're free to level anywhere, it's fairly easy to get bloody freaking powerful. Just get yourself a handful of Exp. Eggs and go for it.

Re: Help in ff6
Doom Gaze will fuck you up if you either A. encounter him before you know he exists or B. have levels in a multiple of 5. And I assume you mean they're easy when fought conventionally, as we all know every boss is a cakewalk if you know exactly what to do.Ack wrote:Truthfully, no boss fight is really that difficult in the World of Ruin, and since you're free to level anywhere, it's fairly easy to get bloody freaking powerful. Re: Help in ff6
There are certain bosses which seem rather unconventional, but they're not huge problems. The guys that present the biggest challenges to me are:
Magi Master(location, wallchange, and Ultima)
Larry, Curly, Moe(because one can resurrect the other two)
Doomgaze(due to location and lvl. 5 Doom)
Wreksoul(because he can posses party members)
White Dragon(only due to his location, I actually consider him the easiest of the dragons)
Chadarnook(only because of the ability to switch between types)
Beyond that, everybody struck me as conventional fights. Sure, some can be tough at low levels, but most didn't require any real preparation beyond what I normally do anyway. The only one I really do anything for nowadays is the Dirt Dragon. I equip everybody with Gaia Gear or Cherub Downs and laugh at how gimped he becomes.
And Level 5 Doom will fuck anyone up, but you've got less than a 1/20 chance of it connecting. Just be wary if you haven't beaten him to death and your level ends in a 5 or 0.

Re: Help in ff6
Wow, no mp... didn't think of that. I guess I just assumed it was the game engine that cast it.
I also agree with Ack about the boss fights, if they didn't have a quirk they were easy to beat, and there was generally a way to work around those anyway.

Re: Help in ff6
Yeah, the AI in Final Fantasy games doesn't cheat. They always need MP to cast their spells. They just have the virtue of having stat advantages over you, which is where the difficulty comes in. I do agree, though, that the boss fights tended to be very rinse and repeat.Dylan wrote:Wow, no mp... didn't think of that. I guess I just assumed it was the game engine that cast it.
