I just wanted to tell this anecdote. My cousin came over lately to hang out with my younger brother. He brought his XBOX 360 and some games, including RE5 and Gears of War 2. I don't own an XBOX 360, so I asked if I could play through the single player campaign on Gears, since I've been interested in that title ever since it came out. I beat it and enjoyed the heck out of it - so much in fact that I thirsted for another shooter to play, so I got out my younger brother's copy of Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube and finally started my own file.
It amazes me that although I just got spoiled to an amazing looking game on the XBOX 360, this four year old Gamecube game still looks really good. I mean, really, when I transitioned from N64 to Gamecube and went back to playing an N64 game for a while, the graphics actually kind of disgusted me. But with RE4 compared to Gears 2 I'm thinking, "It's not quite as spectacular, but it still looks great."
I don't know whether this is a testament to the fact that video game graphics don't have much room for improvement at this point or if it just illustrates how awesome of a job Capcom did on RE4.
Resident Evil 4 is awesome
Re: Resident Evil 4 is awesome
Oh yea the graphics are amazing in that game. Some cutscenes look Xbox 360-ish. I was THAT amazed.

A little of column A, a little of column B. Compare Mario 64 to Mario Sunshine to Mario Galaxy and you see less of a jump between Sunshine and Galaxy. The easiest way of explaining is is with 2D shapes. Let's say we want to draw a circle, but we can only draw using straight lines. A first-order approximation might be an octogon. There's a definate circular shape to it, but it's very angular. Now move up to a dodecagon. It starts to smooth out a bit. The more lines you add the smoother it gets, but the smaller each incremental improvement is. 3D graphics work the same way, only they use triangles to approximate curved surfaces.Anayo wrote:I don't know whether this is a testament to the fact that video game graphics don't have much room for improvement at this point or if it just illustrates how awesome of a job Capcom did on RE4.

Re: Resident Evil 4 is awesome
while this makes me drool because I wanted to play this game for a couple years now(I own wii)
I think it is because maybe you have not used an HDTV you do not see so much difference.
But I am one of the guys that say last generation graphics do not bother me at all. They are
real good an enjoyable, I think graphics jumps are really small now. The real noticeable thing
in current generation graphics are details in texture. I will give them that

Re: Resident Evil 4 is awesome
I got a copy of this game for $.50 at a yard sale, but it's only the first disc. I've never been a huge fan of resident evil games, but then again it's been a while since I played one. I should probably give the series another shot some time.
