So I got a Hori EX2 today

Post by Kevman »

So far I can noticea slight difference in accuracy (no more shoryukens when I want to hadouken) but jumping and moving around seems akward. Is there any tips for getting more used to the stick? Should I go all out and get an octogate and replace the square gate?

Just keep using it and nothing else for a few weeks. You'll probably learn to love it and never go back to using anything else.

OR you could mod it with a different gate and stick.

It's actually quite nice, the buttons and stick feel nice in he hand. Once I get used to it I'm sure it will be much better than a controller.

yep. You can try and get used to the square gate, on paper it has some strong points, but the first thing I did with my EX was change the gate. Swapping out the buttons is a nice benefit, but honestly a small improvement compared to changing the gate.

I think I am going to change the gate. Honestly the buttons don't bother me, my only gripe is the weird setup and lack of RB and LB on the face.

I still think this is an opinion. The only thing square gate has going for it is equal space to all 8 directions, which is fine. That said, personally, I don't think all 8 directions actually need equal space. The deep corners are an unnecessary feature, in that case.

oh its an opinion for sure. Square gate is simply more accurate at finding distinct directions and the diagonals. If I played Zangief in Street Fighter probably have an octo or circle gate for that. Considering charge characters and shmups I'll take a square gate any day.

It doesn't seem like buying a new gate will set me back much. Might as well get one and compare, plus the other one will always be there if I find a use for it.
