Need some help on the details and other stuff regarding cabs and more, such as pricing, maintenance, If shmups can be played on a standard cab instead of a TATE cab etc...

Well if you plan on playing shmups on a cab you should definately look into getting a candy cab rather than a standard american woody. vertical shmups that require a tated screen will only play one way so if your screen is not tated it will run horizontally there is no way to make it run vertical on a horizontal screen. pretty much all the info you could want can be found here -> http://arcadeotaku.com/forum/ Awesome that your thinking of getting a cab Ive wanted one for a while now but severly lack the funds. what game are you thinking of starting out with?

I honestly have no idea what game I want to start with probably something I really like such as Radilgy or Zero Gunner 2, but I wouldn't know where to purchase them.

Anyhow I'm hoping to possibly land a Naomi Universal cab or something like it.

Pcb buying can be tricky. your best (and cheapest) option would be to join the shmups forum or learn how to use yahoo japan.

I dont know of an auction in your neck of the woods any time soon - Majors, you have any info more up to date than me? Super Auctions has not updated their site in a while.

Like toredauei I am a big fan of candies, but getting them is often an arm and a leg. But believe you me, once I get the space for another cabiItll be either a Candy or a Virtual On. I foolishly did not get on the great Southeast purchase on BYOAC a year ago where I could have gotten one for $500ish - they normally go for much more.

But before I get way to far off topic. You first need to decide which kind do you want. If you want a candy it is going to cost more than a wood cab, if you want it vert standard that is going to cost more, ectera. If I were you, I would sit down and figure out exactly what you want in one and what you want to play. Once you have that you can narrow down what to look for.

All your other questions can be better answered once you have that figured out.

Well I don't really know anything about arcade cabs in general, so I'm kinda having a fish out of water moment.

My main idea was to get a shmup cab, but now after doing some research I guess I'm just gonna start saving for a regular cab.

What's the average for a candy cab anyway?

well assuming you can find one close enough to drive to and pick up you're looking at 5-600 minimum and 1200 on the higher end of the spectrum. average is somewhere in the middle of that at around 800ish. My personal favorite (and one ive had my heart set on from the very beginning) is the egret II which not only looks like sex but has the easiest rotating screen out of all the candy cabs.

Hmm... that looks pretty cool actually.

The thing is I'm hoping to have a cab, so of everything starts to get outrageously priced or ridiculous shipping costs I'm just going to wait it out with home ports as being a GS slave and 17 doesn't exactly mean I have a lot of money lying around so any cab would be a massive investment for me.

yea believe me I know how you feel. Thing is, it only gets worse once you graduate and move on to college. The worst part about candy cabs is their price and once you've got a cab you still need a game, the cheapest of which is still expensive comparitivly. You're looking at atleast 700 bucks from the very beginning.
