VGA and Light Guns?

Post by noiseredux »

I'm just curious... would a light gun (made for a console and TV) work on a VGA monitor? I don't really know anything about how light guns work.

Only Dreamcast or PC guns, and only on a CRT monitor.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

So if I had NES plugged into a VGA box, I couldn't play Duckhunt on my monitor?

And how do I know if it's a CRT monitor?

Like I said, I know nothing about this subject.

No, you wouldn't be able to, only the Dreamcast had a VGA compatible lightgun along with the very few that were available exclusively for the PC.

CRT's are the old big boxy glass type of monitors also referred to as 'tubes' like this one:

All Lightguns are unuseable if you use an LCD monitor like this:

Yup, it has to be a VGA Lightgun such as one for Dreamcast or PC.

THe EMS Topgun will work on any screen, it has bars you place vertically and horizontally to help measure your shots.

What is the best bet to set up wireless vga to vga? I need to set up a video projector with a VGA input about 250ft from a PC with a VGA output. I do not think a VGA cable will work at this length??? I would like to go wireless if possible. Any suggestions? ps. the cat5 extender system will not work. Thanks.

I believe there is no wireless VGA solution at the moment (much too high of a bandwith), but you could just try to get an industrial length VGA cable as the signal quality should be just fine as long as the cable is properly shielded.

I'm not endorsing this product, but this VGA over Ethernet repeaterwas just the first I found. Newegg is an excellent site to buy from, but research the item. I imagine there has to be some lag with the video signal being sent that far, so you'd probably have to account for that with the audio if it was a critical thing.
