Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo Cd question
I was just wondering how much is the usual price for a Neo Geo Aes and a neo geo cd? I see the AES around $200-$300 on ebay and the Neo Geo Cd around $150-$200 on ebay. I'm just asking because I just bought a Neo Geo Pocket Color with Metal Slug and King of Fighter R-1 and they are awesome. So I want to buy the home consoles. And is it true if the NEO GEo aes serial number is below 70,000 or something that it has better video? Thanks for your help

Re: Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo Cd question
I am not sure about the serial numbers, but if your choosing between the AES and Neo CD, definitely get the AES. The Neo CD's a good system, but it's slow loading times are infamous. Also, I'd opt for a japanese system. The american aes games will play just fine in a japanese console without being sensored. For example, play Samurai Showdown in an american console and you'll get white "blood" as opposed to red blood if you were playing in a japanese console.
Re: Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo Cd question
Just buy a Neo geo aes with a mvs convertor.Cart systems are more reliable than cd systems to began with and the neo cd is 1X disk drive, which is horribly slow.If you must go with the cd get the japan only CDZ which loads faster than the regular neo cd console.

Re: Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo Cd question
I would definitely go with Neo-Geo AES instead of Neo-Geo CD due to the loading times of CD drive were terrible.. I would get an MVS converter to save money on games..

Re: Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo Cd question
The prices you listed sound about right. The AES is a better system, but much more expensive to buy games for. An MVS converter, which lets you play cart games which are generally cheaper to buy,is also a bit of an investment. If you are really torn between the two, you'll have to decide if you want a better system, better controller, no loading time, but much more expensive for the AES vs. cheaper, less cool to have, long loads for every game for the Neo CD

Re: Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo Cd question
You are slightly right about the lower serial Neo's and video. They also use a different AC adapter which is near impossible to find, but easy to make. I've had repair my older AES(000152) several times, but does have less rainbows and flicker. If you are into the older games, the CD is a great choice. The load times only get up there on the later games 1998+. The games are muuuuch cheaper unless you go with MVS, but a complete CD/with spine is a nice collectible.
If you are looking for a good deal, you should be able to get a Neo CD for $100-150.
Neo AES will run $200-300 depending on how complete and what condition. Many of the games are still under $50.
Another option is to get a CMVS, consolized MVS system. It's not as collectible as the consoles, but it's a great option. MVS titles will run much cheaper and will be 100% compatible as the converters can have issues with later titles. I like MVS kits with all the artwork, but there are a lot of gamer condition carts for less than $20.

Re: Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo Cd question
i have both neo geo cd and a home cartridge aes. i have to say i like them both in their own ways. if i were to recommend one or the other, i would say AES if you have the money to spend. otherwise, check out the cd games which are just as good for the most part and have superior cd sound quality. the neo cd has some exclusive games as well, like crossed swords 2. however, some games simply could not fit on the cd without significant cuts of animation or even worse loading times... so if you get a Neo CD you wont be able to play the later games like Sengoku 3 or Samurai Shodown V/Vsp, Metal Slug 3 and onward, etc.
...and a consolized MVS is a pretty good idea too. there are a lot of games which were released on the MVS format and not the AES or CD.

consolized MVS all the way! I have both Aes and a CMVS, and a MVS to AES converter and the AES stays in its flight case all the time, the CMVS stays hooked up.

This is what I was going to say actually....
for 250-350...Console MVS...will have updated bios, s video, composite video, and sometime component depending on who did the mod and you can play the REAL arcade carts. Yes I know aes and mvs are the same game...but seriously the CMVS plays the REAL DEAL arcade carts...and they cost you about 50-75% LESS than aes carts sinse they normally dont have a pretty case or manual.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

I, for one, love my pretty case and manual.
