Dave Perry (ex Shiny Entertainment, who made Earthworm Jim, MDK and others) shows off Gaikai - a streaming game service.

Basically they load up games and emulators in "the cloud" (their server room) and stream it to your browser. You get all the benefits of their super fast hardware (check out the load times), and all you need is a low-end computer with a browser capable of HTML5's streaming video.

Best of all, they're including emulation services (Mario Kart 64 is shown off in the video). This will be very cool.

pretty cool.

The racing game chopped up very slightly.

World of warcraft had some choppy problem with the other player walking around in the world. Who knows if it is a streaming problem or a problem with the other guy walking around. Maybe both.

I would really love for this technology to come to fruition and be common place. It would be great to get a macbook air and run great games that it normally wouldn't be able to. It would be nice to have complex games super portable.

Screw this I play games on MY HARDWARE, MY DISCS (OR HARDDRIVE) and under MY CONTROL.

I freaking tired of all this cloud computing and 'lag-free' BS that this and other stuff like On Live have been throwing around like crazy even though it's truly impossible from any long distance.

I really don't see the death of local gaming any time soon. I don't think you have much to worry about.

Indeed, the articles about this particular service have noted that the developers and producers are not making any claims that it will overtake current gaming technologies. Only that they merely intend to compliment/supplement, and if anything compete with current flash gaming offerings.

totally. Call of duty is a prime example of a game that i don't want to collect, but want to play like crazy for a year. Plus, it'll be nice to game on the go easily.

Isn't this kind of the same thing that On Live is trying to do?

Ah...gotcha. Well, if anyone can do it; Dave Perry can. Any time I read a interview of this guy he seems like he knows his stuff.

Does OnLive offer emulation too? Or is it just bleeding edge stuff?

MISQUOTE!

Anyhow I know it wont replace local stuff anytime soon, but it's what these companies or their ad people try to claim they can do.
