Agreed on that point, but the PS2 era got us used to single disc games. The only dual disc games were a handful of GC games. Going back to the PS1 style 3-4 disc games feels like a step backwards.ZeroAX wrote:MrPopo wrote:Star Ocean - 3 discskingmohd84 wrote:I didn't know single games came in multiple disks on 360, what game is that?
Lost Odyssey - 4 discs
Blue Dragon - 3 discs
I believe MGS4 also is multi-disc.
but the problem isn't with JRPGs. Changing the disk every few hours is no issue. But when you want to make MMO games, or openw world games in general, you can't have people swaping disks
Do you think Sony will ever pull ahead this generation?

MGS4 is not on the 360 - only on PS3. It is on one disc.MrPopo wrote: I believe MGS4 also is multi-disc.

I could have sworn that they were going to port it or had ported it to the 360, but I guess not. If they did it would be multi-disc.dsheinem wrote:MGS4 is not on the 360 - only on PS3. It is on one disc.MrPopo wrote: I believe MGS4 also is multi-disc.

I miss the days of swapping floppies to play micky mouse. Screw bluray. I want the next GTA to come on 3.5" disks.
Re: Do you think Sony will ever pull ahead this generation?
I hate swapping disks unless its like in RE: Code Veronica that the game is so huge you finish one disk then you move on to finish the story on disk 2.
I hate it if I want to go back to the "city" I have to put in disk 1 and if I want to return to the jungle I have to put in disk "2" .
As for graphics compression, how come 360 is still matching ps3's games graphics wise and sometimes surpassing them even though it is NOT compressed on a ps3.
coming to think of it, don't you think HD graphics was too early back in 2005 when Microsoft released the console. It is not that popular now except in for current generation gamers really, and even those are like half and half. Or were they think a console in 2005 to be still fantastic in 2011

Developer negligence. It's quite obvious that the PS3 is capable of earth-shattering visuals - most developers don't want to put in the time to learn how, though. At least Valve is looking for PS3 developers now. Every other developer is satisfied with 'Good Enough'.kingmohd84 wrote: As for graphics compression, how come 360 is still matching ps3's games graphics wise and sometimes surpassing them even though it is NOT compressed on a ps3.

Obviously the extra effort, is not worth it, to please only 20mil people. Besides next gen games, cost so much, and they only have a 50 mil market to sell to, they need to save money any way they can.
That's why we see pc ports of games, we'd never think we would see on the pc (all of capcom's line up and saint's row 2 springs to mind)

Yeah - a good argument can be made that the PC and PS3 have really suffered some poor ports because of the 360's popularity. Look no further than PS3's Orange Box, PC's Gears of War, etc. On the other hand, when companies do exclusives for those platforms (Killzone 2, MGS4, Crysis, etc.) you really get to see what the best new graphics technologies can do.ZeroAX wrote:Obviously the extra effort, is not worth it, to please only 20mil people. Re: Do you think Sony will ever pull ahead this generation?
I don't think it has to do with popularity. There is only a 10mil difference in 360 and ps3, and there are more than 30mil high end pcs out there. I still believe it has to do with cost cutting. Make the leading SKU, and then port it as cheaply and as fast as possible.dsheinem wrote: Yeah - a good argument can be made that the PC and PS3 have really suffered some poor ports because of the 360's popularity.

Ok so why Sony would not create games that will show the graphics power of its system if other developers are not putting the time into it
