A lot of the feedback I've been getting about the site is that everybody seems to really like the original lists and articles while not many people like the generic news stuff cluttering the blog (not that I have a lot).
I also personally don't like to spend much time writing about the news when every other blog has written about it to death. However, I would like to be able to still provide retro fans with a way to keep up to date with a nice RSS feed of the headlines and important links without having to swim through all the other generic gaming blogs.
To do this, I thought I might start bookmarking the news stories on del.icio.us with a special tag so I can have people subscribe to that specific RSS feed and keep it separate from the articles and such. I could also develop some separate HTML page that displays those headlines/links for casual browsers who don't want to subscribe to the RSS.
What do you think of the idea?

Seems good to me
Makes sense, I reckon.
There are better sources for news out there, but not as specific. If you had a separate area from the articles (that are your main strenght, shall we say) where you simply compiled the ones that are deemed interesting for the target audience, whoever is interested in it could opt in, and whoever is not could opt out.

Re: RetroGaming News Idea....
Actually I love the site exactly as it is. I don't have time to go to all the sites and blogs and like that I have a site ran by someone who basically matches my tastes in games to filter through it all. Before this site I'd sit down once a month and look for emulation and classic gaming news or advances. Now I check this site everyday. Sometimes it branches me off to other sites and sometimes it's all that I need to check here and the boards.racketboy wrote:A lot of the feedback I've been getting about the site is that everybody seems to really like the original lists and articles while not many people like the generic news stuff cluttering the blog (not that I have a lot).

Thanks for a great site.

what are some good news sites if not quite as targeted?Ivo wrote:There are better sources for news out there, but not as specific.
like the last poster, I don't hit a ton of sites everyday. =)

Re: Seems good to me
What I mean is that there are sites dedicated to games news, but obviously they are not "retro slanted" and thus an overwhelming majority of the stuff is about new releases. If the new stuff mildly interests you you should check those as it's not really useful for RB to just replicate their posts (I read it just to keep an idea of what's going on, because I don't have any of the current consoles).Jubal wrote:what are some good news sites if not quite as targeted?Ivo wrote:There are better sources for news out there, but not as specific.
