NGPC game problem

Post by Lokkenjawnz »

Alright so today I picked up an NGPC with three games: Samurai Shodown 2, Fatal Fury, and an unlabeled game that I don't know the identity of, all for 10 bucks! A great deal, however the person said that the system itself needed to be cleaned out/fixed because none of the games would boot; it just goes to the menu screen when you turn it on. No problem, I figured, I just want the games anyways. Then I tried them on my NGPC and no dice. The games wouldn't boot. So I tested my known working copy of Metal Slug 1 on the supposedly dirty system I just got and it boots up fine.

So long story short, somehow, all three of these games refuse to boot. They all seem structurally sound, and there's no way they're bootlegs, who the hell makes an NGPC bootleg? I've tried cleaning them with rubbing alcohol, even though they already seemed immaculate, and they still won't boot. The only odd thing I notice is that they are Japanese versions of the games, however the NGPC is region-free, so that shouldn't cause a problem. Someone help! I need to bust out some NGPC action!

Keep cleaning them, I once scrubbed the contacts on a Pilotwings cart for an hour to get it to work. Trust me, over time a lot of invisible crap can build up on those contacts.

Dude you're a quick commenter!

I'll continue to clean it, but it's a bit of a pain in the ass. The carts are so thin that the q tip doesn't hardly fit in the slot, I'm going to have to specially modify them just to clean it effectively. Hopefully cleaning is all they need, because that's really all I can think could be the problem. I think I might try opening them up actually, it'd probably be significantly easier that way. I'm not sure what kind of screwdriver it needs though, sounds like a trip to ACE is in order!

Leave the Q-Tips as is, I've found that by the extra friction is good in that it gives you a stronger scrubbing force, also using slightly less Rubbing Alcohol (Only use Rubbing Alcohol marked as 70% By Volume !) prevents any from seeping into the inside of the cartridges.

Yeah I use %70 alcohol, it rocks. When I say that the q tips don't fit though, I mean there's so much friction that trying to move them across the pins just bends the q tip.

Thanks a bunch for the help by the way, in both of my threads. I tend to be pretty knowledgeable when it comes to these things, so filling in the blanks for me is great, I hate having spotty knowledge!

Anytime, I'd rather help someone clean their old carts before they throw them out in frustration.

Yeah I hope so too! The NGPC is one of my favorite consoles ever, I love Neo Geo! It's too difficult to find NGPC games at good prices though, I hate going on eBay, and there's not much local action. If anyone knows of any awesome secret NGPC game vaults let me know, I'm dying for some Puzzle Bobble and Faselei.

I tried some cartridge N64 games
although I really wanted to test them out , some just didn't work for reasons I do not understand
I scrubber them and used some kind of spray solution that cleans out metal objects(recommended by some videogame store nearby , tested and worked) , but some games just didn't boot so I quit on them
