Everywhere I read, there is always someone preaching that the port sucks. I haven't played the port but I have watched videos of the arcade and Saturn versions side by side and the speed is arcade perfect and the bullet count is there. The graphics seem to have taken a slight hit but that was the only downside I could see.
Anyone with a Saturn copy who has played the arcade version care to comment?
What is SO wrong with DoDonPachi for the Saturn?

Why not just play it and see for yourself?
It's a poorly programmed grainy mess...not nearly as bad as the donpachi port but still upsetting considering how perfect the arcade versions are.

because it would cost in the area of 50 bux to try it myself.

I have a burned copy here, and while I'm playing with bad picture quality (RF adapter), it does seem grainier than the other games I have. Alright, I'm not in a good position to complain, but other games look just fine (maybe a little below fine, in fact), while DoDonPachi looks the "I-can't-see-the-fucking-bullets" kind of bad.

I've never had that problem with the Saturn version and I just have some old TV.jfrost wrote:Alright, I'm not in a good position to complain, but other games look just fine (maybe a little below fine, in fact), while DoDonPachi looks the "I-can't-see-the-fucking-bullets" kind of bad.
My game-related blog.

The Saturn port has an annoying pixelated explosion effect that isn't present in the PSX version, plus the PSX version runs at more a steady framerate - however, they're both pretty blurry compared to the arcade versions.

Re: What is SO wrong with DoDonPachi for the Saturn?
I own the Saturn disc and I play the arcade port via MAME and at the arcade. I seriously don't see a huge difference. I have an S-video Saturn AV cable, so maybe that 'fixes' the problem.
Re: What is SO wrong with DoDonPachi for the Saturn?
I have Donpachi... and I really don't like to play it since I enjoy it much more on MAME. I think it's the bit of loading at the beginning of levels that turns me off. It's really not much... maybe 2-3 seconds, but it just bugs me for some reason. I don't know why. I love other shooters on the Saturn.
I won't pick up Dodonpachi unless I find it for the equivalent of $10 or less.
