360 Standard TV Question

Post by scottykick »

I know Dead Rising was infamous for it's text on standard def tv's, but in general how is text in most games on a standard tv, say for example Mass Effect or Fallout 3.

I plan on getting a 360 early next week or over the weekend, and am trying to decide which games to get with it. The Orange Box is on top of the list ($20 is a steal) and I will also get UFC or Fight Night Rd 4.

I asked the clerk at Gamestop in Kings Plaza Mall in Brooklyn, if he knew off hand if they had 360's with Jasper motherboards and he said he was not sure, since there is no way to tell what board is in the system...

so I expalined to him that by checking the voltage it is a good inicator (12.1)He acted suprised and said it was good to know, alas he never did go check and I had to get back to work, so my question went unanswered for that day.

I might go the Arcade Unit + Seperate HDD just to try and insure I get a Jasper unit.

don't the jaspers fail just as much as any of the others?

I'm not sure about the text stuff. I'm sure it varies from game to game. A buddy of mine just played through mass effect twice on a small normal 4:3 tv, so i think you are probably fine there. Orange box barely has any text.

not sure about the failure rate of Jaspers compared to previous, but i would guess that it has to be moderatley better...(crosses fingers)

If you shop around you can get orange box for less than 20. I guess you want to decide if 6 bucks is worth the insecurity of eBay.

I had thought my Jasper failed but it hadnt. I was just an idiot and didnt have the AV cables plugged in tight. I have not heard of any Jaspers failing yet. I bought an arcade unit and a seperate HDD...doing that also gets you free headset and 3 months live gold membership so Id say that is the way to go. Plus it is all white so it is the best looking model. That chrome shit on the others is nasty.

Here at GS we've been getting broken Jasper's in just as often as the older chipsets. I personally just see 360's as mostly luck of the draw; sometimes you'll get a good one, but most of the time you get a lemon.

I thought they had a new issue besides RROD which is called the E74 error. I believe I have one but am not sure. I have the Resident evil red system.

Yeah the E74 is now covered under the same warrenty as the RROD, so if you get that you can send it to MS free of charge.

There is a long reply in the letters page of the new issue of Gamepro regarding the 360 hardware, and it was rather harsh, but rightly so.

Here I go again, swaying back to the PS3 lol

I played 360 games on a standard def tv for a year and a half and mostly they were OK, but sometimes it gets annoying. Orange Box is one of the ones I played SD and it was fine. I will say that more and more games are going the way of assuming you have an HD display.

Jasper units are better than Falcons which are better than launch mobos, but there are still some failures. Newer is better, but not completely immune.
